Or, at least that\u2019s my honest\u00a0assessment of my own process. I\u2019m not very good at grieving.<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s just a dog<\/em>, you might say. Well no, she\u2019s imbued with the dignity of a family\u2019s love \u2014\u00a0besides, she\u2019s a living creation and carries a soul.<\/p>\n<p>God gives us the dignity of His love. After all, He created the animal kingdom and all of\u00a0nature for His glory and for Adam and Eve\u2019s benefit. They were commanded to tend, love, and\u00a0nurture what God had spoken into existence. What a mess we\u2019ve made of it all. And, all of\u00a0God\u2019s creation suffers and groans for our fall. Romans 8 :19-23)<\/p>\n<p>We took our five year old west German Shepherd West German Shepherd to the vet on Friday. She hasn\u2019t been\u00a0herself for the past few weeks, less spunk, and a change in breathing rhythm. We thought\u00a0maybe she\u2019d picked up a bug. So, we made an appointment with the vet and expected to leave\u00a0with an antibiotic prescription \u2014 back to life as usual.<\/p>\n<p>However, the worst news came from a chest Xray, ultrasound, biopsy, and biopsy. Our sweet Aspen\u00a0was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer, common to German Shepherds \u2014\u00a0hemangiosarcoma \u2014 and it seems to have metastasized to her lungs. As of this writing, she\u2019s\u00a0resting comfortably on a swath of carpet next to her bed. Aspen is a special dog, and that\u2019s not\u00a0just a cliche. Aspen&#8217;s eyes are bright and intelligent. She\u2019s a perennial puppy and mischievous\u00a0in a sweet, kind way.<\/p>\n<p>She is obsessed with chasing butterflies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When she was chronologically a puppy we enrolled in a K-9 Good Citizenship class. She\u00a0learned to sit, lay down, and stay, but only if there were no butterflies fluttering nearby.
