Brian Seitz (R.Branson), will be entering his third session as the Missouri General Assembly convenes at Springfield on January 4. He is also sponsoring a bill which would require state legislators to examine and possibly disregard certain presidential executive orders.<\/p>\n<p>His proposal would be <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/bill.aspx?bill=HB174&#038;year=2023&#038;code=R\">House Bill 174<\/a>The Missouri House must review any executive orders issued by the president that have not been approved by a Congressional vote in order to determine if they are valid. \u201cthey are, in fact, Constitutional,\u201d Seitz shared his thoughts with The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>If the Missouri House has questions about the constitutionality of a presidential executive order, the bill requires it be referred to the state\u2019s attorney general to determine if it \u201crestricts a person\u2019s constitutional rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a firm believer in states\u2019 rights, and am very concerned about losing our authority [as a legislature] to federal overreach,\u201d Seitz said.<\/p>\n<p>This would be applicable to any presidential executive orders that relate to \u201cregulation of business activities or personal behaviors during a pandemic or other public health emergency,\u201d The agricultural industry, natural resources, and land use are all examples. \u201cthe financial sector through the imposition of environmental, social, or governance [ESG] standards, and \u201cthe constitutional right to keep and bear arms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are three branches of the government\u2014not one,\u201d Seitz stated that if the measure is adopted, it will be a success. \u201cwould cover executive orders from presidents of either party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But make no mistake: The bill\u2014along with Senate companions filed by Sen. Rick Brattin (R-Harrisonville)\u2014is hardly bipartisan in genesis.<\/p>\n<p>Since Democrat Joe Biden was sworn in as president in January 2021, similar bills have been introduced in at least nine other Republican-controlled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-state-legislatures\">state legislatures<\/a>Alabama, Utah Nebraska, South Dakota and South Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Oklahoma and Tennessee bills were passed through committees, they did not make it to chamber votes in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>American Legislative Exchange Council&#8217;s (ALEC), senior director for Homeland Security and International<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
