Croft was convicted along with Fox of conspiracy to inflict explosives damage.<\/p>\n<p>Croft was sentenced for 19 years and seven month in prison. In connection with the plot to kill Whitmer, he is the seventh person to be sentenced. Fox was sentenced by a federal court on Tuesday. Three other men were sentenced in states court earlier this month. According to, two other people were sentenced earlier in the year by federal court. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/12\/28\/barry-croft-whitmer-kidnapping-sentence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two other men were also acquitted of conspiring against kidnapping the governor earlier in this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough he may not have had hierarchical control over all the other participants, he coordinated and pushed the implementation of the conspiracy from its inception to its final stages,\u201d Nils Kessler (Assistant U.S. Attorney) said that Croft was in an unpublished court filing. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/michigan-gov-whitmer-kidnapping-plot-co-leader-barry-croft-jr-sentenced-19-years-prison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only remaining step was for the governor to appear at her cottage so they could launch their plan, but fortunately she was still beyond their control,\u201d He concluded.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker, who hed down Croft and Fox\u2019s sentences, described Croft as \u201cthe idea guy\u201d and \u201ca very convincing communicator,\u201d According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/12\/28\/1145812509\/gov-whitmer-plot-sentence-croft\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Croft was sentenced 16 years and 7 months in prison. In connection to the plot against Whitmer, he is the seventh person to be sentenced. Fox was sentenced to federal prison on Tuesday. Three other men were sentenced in states court earlier in the month. Two other defendants were also sentenced earlier in the year by federal courts.<\/p>\n<p>Two other men were also acquitted of conspiring against kidnapping the governor earlier in this year.<\/p>\n<p>Croft\u2019s attorney, Joshua Blanchard, tried to downplay his client\u2019s role in the conspiracy and dismiss some of what Croft was recorded saying as crazy talk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimply put, to the extent that the jury determined he was a participant, as they necessarily did, he was a participant to a lesser degree than others,\u201d Blanchard claimed in a court filing that Blanchard was innocent according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/barry-croft-jr-sentencing-wednesday-gretchen-whitmer-kidnap-plot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trial brought attention to the FBI and the militia members who were charged with conspiring against the governor&#8217;s kidnapping.
