These were heard in court during a two-day trial last Wednesday. Eight others were originally dismissed by Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson. Two counts of intentional misconduct stemming from malfunctioning printers and failure to comply with ballot chain of custody procedures were dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>The Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/3790121-kari-lake-appeals-judges-dismissal-of-arizona-election-challenge\/\">reported<\/a> Lake\u2019s filing said she would \u201cseek direct review by the Arizona Supreme Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lake told former president Donald Trump\u2019s adviser Steve Bannon on his \u201cWar Room\u201d indicating that she intends to file her appeal within the week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am standing up for the people of this state, the people who were done wrong on Election Day, and the millions of people who live outside of Maricopa County, whose vote was watered down by this bogus election in Maricopa County,\u201d Lake said in an appearance on Stephen Bannon\u2019s \u201cWar Room\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KariLake?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@KariLake<\/a>: &#8220;I am standing up for the people of this state. The people who were done wrong on Election Day and the millions of people who live outside of Maricopa County, whose vote was watered down by this bogus election in Maricopa County.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sFHQCx9f9Y\">pic.twitter.com\/sFHQCx9f9Y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kari Lake (@KariLake) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KariLake\/status\/1607887863877701632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Maricopa County, which includes the capital of Phoenix and is Arizona\u2019s most populous county, had notable problems during the November 8 election, including printer and tabulation machine-related issues in at least 70 of the county\u2019s 223 polling locations.<\/p>\n<p>Lake claims that tabulator malfunctions occurred at 59% of county voting centers on Election Day.<\/p>\n<p>Lake\u2019s suit claimed thousands of Republican voters were disenfranchised, arguing \u201chundreds of thousands of illegal ballots infected the election in Maricopa County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite her claims, Lake was disqualified by the results.<\/p>\n<p>Lake, a former journalist who prioritized election integrity as a candidate, filed her appeal after a judge issued a ruling earlier on Tuesday to deny sanctions against her brought by Hobbs for seeking to overturn the results of last month\u2019s governor\u2019s race.<\/p>\n<p>Hobbs, Maricopa County, filed motions Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/sanctions-against-kari-lake-could-cost-her-nearly-700k-1769747\">sanctions<\/a> against Lake and her attorneys, which may amount to nearly $700,000 in penalties to cover the attorneys\u2019 fees and costs, according to an estimate from the AZ Law blog.<\/p>\n<p>It could be used for charitable purposes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kari-lake-could-be-on-hook-for-big-payday-benefiting-dem-lawyer-from-steele-dossier-debacle\">Marc Elias<\/a>, who is well known as the lawyer who directed funding from Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign and Democratic National Committee that went toward British ex-spy Christopher Steele\u2019s now-discredited anti-Trump dossier.<\/p>\n<p>The judge explained that his dismissal of Lake\u2019s case does not equate to determining that Lake\u2019s claims were \u201cgroundless and presented in bad faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny legal decision must be based on the law and facts rather than subjective beliefs or partisan opinions, no matter how strongly held,\u201d He added.<\/p>\n<p>Hobbs, who is currently Arizona\u2019s secretary of state, is set to be inaugurated as governor on January 5.<\/p>\n<p><em>This report was contributed by Daniel Chaitin<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake appealed a Maricopa County judge\u2019s decision Tuesday to dismiss her lawsuit, which challenged her defeat against Democratic Governor-elect Katie Hobbs.
