We\u2019ve got to get to the point where we\u2019re reliable and we get our Customers, our Crews, our aircraft, everything on track,\u201d He stated.<\/p>\n<p>Southwest currently operates on approximately one-third of its scheduled flights. Southwest has pledged to continue this trend. \u201chonor reasonable requests for reimbursement for meals, hotel, and alternate transportation\u201d For travelers who have to change their plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a tough day today,\u201d Jordan said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/southwests-troubles-mount-as-airline-scraps-more-than-half-its-flights-11672084678?mod=hp_lead_pos1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> Monday night \u201cIn all likelihood we\u2019ll have another tough day tomorrow as we work our way out of this. This is the largest-scale event that I\u2019ve ever seen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The airline has been struggling to regain its footing since a winter storm gripped much of the country just before Christmas \u2014 but the disruption brought on by the severe weather threw Southwest\u2019s scheduling system into chaos, and they have yet to fully recover.<\/p>\n<p>So many flights have been canceled \u2014 over 12,000 since December 23 \u2014 that the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a plan to investigate the airline\u2019s compliance with its posted customer service policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUSDOT is concerned by Southwest\u2019s unacceptable rate of cancellations and delays &#038; reports of lack of prompt customer service,\u201d The department took to Twitter via its official account. \u201cThe Department will examine whether cancellations were controllable and if Southwest is complying with its customer service plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">USDOT is concerned by Southwest\u2019s unacceptable rate of cancellations and delays &#038; reports of lack of prompt customer service. The Department will investigate whether Southwest was able to cancel and if it is following its customer service policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TransportationGov (@USDOT) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USDOT\/status\/1607558478859759616?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pete Buttigieg (Transport Secretary) added \u201cI\u2019m tracking closely &#038; will have more to say about this tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Southwest Airlines representative Jay McVay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/southwest-airlines-ceo-warns-tough-day-cancellations-continue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> After the initial weather-related cancellations the main problem was getting pilots to the right places for the remaining flights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith those [cancellations], you end up with flight crews and airplanes that are out [of] place and not in the cities that they need to be in to continue to run our operations \u2014 that is ultimately exactly how we ended up where we are,\u201d He stated. \u201cIt\u2019s trying to get our flight crews back into cities where they need to be to operate our flight schedules and then reaccommodate everyone that we can.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan called on employees to get it together as thousands of delays and cancellations left post-holiday travelers and their bags stranded in airports all across the country.
