There was certainly hype behind it. Moviegoers chose to not buy tickets to the movie. \u201cBabylon,\u201d The result was a poor $5.3 million opening in four days.<\/p>\n<p>Deadline reports that the film will need to gross $250 million to turn a profit. <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/12\/babylon-box-office-bombs-brad-pitt-margot-robbie-1235207013\/\">reported<\/a>This means that the majority of that money will now need to come from abroad. The publication noted that it\u2019ll be almost impossible to achieve that amount even though one insider said the movie\u2019s three hour plus runtime won\u2019t be a hindrance in Europe like it is in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The movie was nominated multiple times for Golden Globe awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress. However, both critics as well as audiences are not impressed by its film. The movie currently has a 55% new critic rating. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/babylon_2022\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> A 49% audience score.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Salon&#8217;s reviewer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salon.com\/2022\/12\/23\/babylon-review-damien-chazelle\/\">said<\/a> Observe \u201cBabylon\u201d It was an \u201cexasperating\u201d experience, saying, \u201cIt tries to do too much but ends up doing not saying very little. Less would have been more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat a sprawling, grotesque, self-indulgent, wretched, occasionally mesmerizing but ultimately over-the-top mess we have in Damien Chazelle\u2019s Hollywood epic \u2018Babylon,\u2019 which one imagines was supposed to be a lurid and show-stopping and unvarnished celebration of the hedonistic madness that enveloped the movie business in the 1920s but comes across as a three-hour plus attack on our senses \u2014 a flashy, sometimes dazzling but curiously uninvolving and often nauseatingly gross spectacle,\u201d Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/movies-and-tv\/2022\/12\/21\/23516785\/babylon-review-margot-robbie-movie-brad-pitt-darren-aronofsky\">agreed<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He spoke out about some of the most graphic scenes in the movie, such as an elephant urinating at the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also \u2018treated\u2019 to scenes of a woman urinating on an obese party animal; a sad-sack moron getting his head stuck in a toilet; a muscle-bound and crazed giant of a man munching on a live rat, and various showbiz types getting coked up and liquored up and on and it goes,\u201d Roeper continued by saying \u201cBabylon\u201d We will be there for you \u201cfeeling like you need to take a shower\u201d By the end.<\/p>\n<p>Being gross isn\u2019t the only complaint people have about this hyped-up film about Hollywood\u2019s history. \u201cWhat\u2019s really, truly embarrassing is how completely sure Damien Chazelle is that he\u2019s absolutely nailing every scene in this movie,\u201d One reviewer noted.<\/p>\n<p>Many audience reviews mention that \u201cBabylon\u201d Was \u201ctoo long\u201d  \u201cboring,\u201d plus didn\u2019t have enough character development.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBabylon\u201d underperformed expectations at the box office over Christmas weekend, leaving industry insiders to speculate that the film won\u2019t break even financially.
