I never really aspired to do television. I put my focus on making records, doing live shows and being in the theater. So I took a paper bag full of clothes and got on a plane. I met John [Schneider] on a Wednesday, we did a test on a Friday and 10 days later we were shooting in Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t long before \u201cDukes Of Hazzard\u201d became a hit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can never tell when something\u2019s gonna pop,\u201d Wopat continued. \u201cBut some time in the first year, we just knew we had something amazing here. The fans are unique in that they hand down their love for the show from generation to generation. I\u2019ve met third and fourth-generation fans. It\u2019s amazing. It\u2019s a gift. We became lifelong friends. But the whole cast was pretty darn close.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe tried not to take ourselves too seriously and I think we did a pretty good job of that,\u201d he added. \u201cWe\u2019ve lost some of the older guys since then and it\u2019s a shame. We were a family on set\u2026 I still see Catherine [Bach] and John to this day\u2026 I love him like a brother. I\u2019m always writing songs to keep me fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wopat is still performing to this day, starting in the sequel to 2017\u2019s\u00a0<em>County Line<\/em> titled <em>County Line: All In<\/em>. Check out a trailer for that in the video below.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n[embedded content]\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong>Wopat Looks To The Future<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Though he\u2019s over 70, Wopat is far from done working, and he\u2019s eager to see what the future holds for his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think creating something that\u2019s for all generations is in short supply these days,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I think that stuff is still makable. Hallmark is not really my cup of tea, and I\u2019m not really into rom-coms. But I think people do want something they can watch with the family and look back on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDukes Of Hazzard\u201d was truly a one-of-a-kind show that is still beloved to this day.
