He disappeared under the truck last night. She didn\u2019t see him cross the street, now his body\u2019s a red streak. She was reading on her phone the latest Tweet,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/austinmobility\/status\/1605618945339273216\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read<\/a> a tweet from Austin\u2019s department of transportation. \u201cThen I saw EMS putting Santa Claus underneath a sheet so snowy white. Oh, what a sad day it has been with distraction yet again and Mommy killing Santa Claus last night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1\/2 \ud83c\udfb5 I saw mommy killing Santa Claus<br \/>He disappeared under the truck last night<\/p>\n<p>She didn&#8217;t see him cross the street, now his body\u2019s a red streak<br \/>She was reading on her phone the latest Tweet. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bPTYIxSVOB\">pic.twitter.com\/bPTYIxSVOB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ATX Transportation (@austinmobility) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/austinmobility\/status\/1605618945339273216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 21, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrive safe for the holidays and put distractions away before you drive,\u201d the message concluded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The tweet was a parody of the classic 1952 song \u201cI Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,\u201d which was written by Tommie Connor.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently not all Austin residents were pleased with the messaging, as City Councilmember Mackenzie Kelly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mkelly007\/status\/1605663777248141322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1605663777248141322%7Ctwgr%5Ef8e54bbfb4896191a0fd318f1c8b27fd27b27ab4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fus%2Faustin-officials-mommy-killing-santa-claus-christmas-driving-safety-tweets-raise-concerns\">announced<\/a> that she had reached out to city managers over the tweet. Kelly later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/austin-officials-mommy-killing-santa-claus-christmas-driving-safety-tweets-raise-concerns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Fox News that Austin Transportation Department Director Richard Mendoza had apologized to the city over the messaging.<\/p>\n<p>The city announced on Wednesday that the social media posts were intended to encourage safe driving and warn commuters about the dangers of distracted driving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope the social media posts encourage the community to make good choices on the road this holiday season by planning a safe ride home and avoiding distractions,\u201d a city spokesman said. \u201cIn this series of posts, we are continuing to focus on the prime behaviors that cause severe crashes \u2013 speed, distraction, intoxication and failing to yield \u2013 and we hope the messaging will raise awareness in the community to travel safely this holiday season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city had previously put out a series of messages about \u201cFrothy the Snowman,\u201d showing images of a cartoon snowman clasping a bottle of whiskey.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u200b\u201cFrothy the snowman was a jolly happy soul. He went out one night with all his bros,\u00a0after a few drinks he went home. Frothy the snowman is a sad story, we say. He said \u2018I\u2019m fine to drive,\u2019 as he left the dive and pulled onto the highway,\u201d the Frothy messaging read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrothy\u2019s car swerved off the road and into a snow drift. It could have been avoided if he would just have called a Lyft.
