The increase was most pronounced for respondents below age 45,\u201d the latest Survey of Consumer Expectations by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkfed.org\/microeconomics\/sce\/labor#\/\">stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Conditional on expecting an offer, the average expected annual salary of job offers during the next four months rose to $61,187 in November from $60,310 in July, which is also a new high in the series.<\/p>\n<p>The proportion of people who searched for jobs in the previous four weeks fell from 24.7 percent in July to 18.8 percent in November. People were found to be more satisfied with their wage compensation, non-wage benefits, and promotion opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the median one-year expected earnings growth fell by 0.2 percentage points to 2.8 percent in November, according to a Dec. 12 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkfed.org\/newsevents\/news\/research\/2022\/20221212\">press release<\/a> from the New York Fed.<\/p>\n<p>Mean unemployment expectations\u2014or the mean probability that the U.S. unemployment rate will be higher one year from now\u2014fell by 0.7 percentage points to 42.2 percent.<\/p>\n<h2>Welfare Benefits, Labor Force Participation<\/h2>\n<p>While salary expectations grew higher, Americans are also receiving more money in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-welfare-benefits\">welfare benefits<\/a>. A recent report\u00a0from the Committee to Unleash Prosperity titled \u201cPaying Americans Not to Work\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/committeetounleashprosperity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Paying-Americans-Not-to-Work.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) states that such benefits are a key reason why America is facing a dearth of workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 14 states, a family of four with two unemployed workers can receive unemployment insurance benefits and ACA [Affordable Care Act] subsidies equivalent to a job that pays $80,000 a year in wages and health benefits\u2014or more,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn another 10 states, a family can receive the equivalent of a $70,000-a-year job. For these families, work may literally not pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Dec. 21 <a href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Report\/Immigrant-Workers-November-2022-19-Million-Over-2019\">report<\/a> by the Center for Immigration Studies claims that there has been a \u201clong-term decline\u201d in labor force participation rate among American-born citizens, primarily those without a bachelor\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n<p>In November, there were 44.9 million working-age American-born citizens who were not part of the labor force, which is 10 million more than in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, there were 29.6 million immigrants, both legal and illegal, working in the country in November, which is 1.9 million more than in November 2019 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<h2>Fed Policy<\/h2>\n<p>In a speech last month, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell pointed to the tightness of the labor market\u2014which is driving up wages and eventually the cost of goods and services\u2014as a major barrier to containing inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Though wage growth has been positive, it has lagged behind the inflation rate in the United States, meaning that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-real-wages\">real wages<\/a> are in the red.<\/p>\n<p>However, some experts do not agree with the Fed\u2019s assessment.
