McGinister is heard making requests for a news anchor, saying she doesn\u2019t want to hurt anyone as she forces the Walmart worker to walk with her away from the person recording.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, give me a news anchor down here right now,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/12\/23\/mississippi-cops-fatally-shoot-woman-corlunda-mcginister-for-holding-walmart-worker-hostage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need help, I need help,\u201d McGinister added. \u201cGive me a news anchor down here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Viral video posted to TikTok showed an apparent hostage situation unfold at a Walmart in Richland, Mississippi. A woman held a Walmart employee at gunpoint. News reports indicate the suspect was shot dead by police. No other injuries were reported. \ud83d\udcf9: 504bigmama <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KZKYPTn0jC\">pic.twitter.com\/KZKYPTn0jC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Malik Earnest (@MalikEarnest) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MalikEarnest\/status\/1605881928871133189?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 22, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Witnesses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlbt.com\/2022\/12\/23\/richland-walmart-reopens-after-officer-involved-shooting-armed-hostage-situation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the woman got into a confrontation with the worker in the customer service department before taking her hostage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The hostage situation was reported at around 5:45 p.m., and officers with the Richland Police Department quickly moved in on the hostage taker, pleading with her to drop her weapon and let the employee go. Two hours after the incident was reported, McGinister was shot and killed by an officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRPD had an officer-involved shooting this evening at Walmart. All of our officers are safe. Walmart is secure and closed at this time. MBI will be conducting an independent investigation,\u201d the Richland Police Department stated, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wapt.com\/article\/rankin-county-coroner-responding-to-officer-involved-shooting-at-richland-walmart\/42312226\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to WAPT.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Richland Police Chief Nick McClendon informed the public that no one else was injured in the shooting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s devastating for all parties involved \u2014 the officers, everybody that was involved in this situation,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know, with the Christmas season coming, mental health is a big deal because of the stress involved in the Christmas season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mississippi Walmart reopened with police stationed inside and outside of the store to help customers feel safe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Mississippi police officer shot and killed a woman who had taken an employee hostage inside a Walmart Wednesday.
