He also successfully defended prominent <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2012\/04\/26\/edwards-attorneys-pick-away-at-former-aide-during-grueling-fourth-day-of-testimony\/\">Democrats John Edwards<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2017\/11\/06\/menendez-lawyer-blasts-corruption-case-as-rehearsed-play\/\">Sen. Bob Menendez<\/a> (D-NJ) from federal corruption charges in 2012 and 2017, respectively. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the Trump administration, Lowell represented Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, during the Russia collusion investigations by Congress and the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Lowell was the main lawyer for Tom Barrack, a President Donald Trump supporter and fundraiser, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/04\/trump-ally-tom-barrack-found-not-guilty-of-federal-charges\/\">found not guilty last month<\/a> by a Brooklyn federal jury on charges he unlawfully acted as a foreign agent.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans, who won a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/16\/republicans-sweep-to-house-majority-after-four-years-out-of-power\/\">narrow House majority<\/a> in last month\u2019s midterm elections, have put Hunter Biden\u2019s business dealings squarely in their sights.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), the incoming chair of the House Oversight Committee, and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who will head up the House Judiciary Committee, have said their panels will investigate whether the first son\u2019s business dealings put the nation\u2019s security at risk and whether President Biden was benefiting from the relationships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investigation is about Joe Biden,\u201d Comer <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/17\/house-gop-to-investigate-hunter-biden-dealings\/\">told reporters last month<\/a> as he previewed the probes. \u201cWas Joe Biden directly involved with Hunter Biden\u2019s business deals and is he compromised? That\u2019s our investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not trying to prove Hunter Biden is a bad actor,\u201d Comer added. \u201cHe is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Post first exposed Hunter Biden\u2019s business interests in China and Ukraine in a series of reports <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad\/\">beginning in October 2020<\/a> based on emails and documents found in a laptop the first son abandoned at a Delaware computer repair store the year before.<\/p>\n<p>The blockbuster reports gave Republicans the ammunition needed to pursue investigations into Hunter Biden and his family, but they were also the subject of censorship by Twitter and other social media platforms at the behest of the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, has been releasing installments of the so-called \u201cTwitter Files\u201d since Dec. 2 that revealed the behind-the-scenes deliberations taking place among the tech company\u2019s top executives to block The Post\u2019s reporting.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, journalist Michael Shellenberger <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/12\/19\/fbi-reached-out-to-twitter-before-post-broke-hunter-biden-laptop-story\/\">revealed that the FBI pushed Twitter<\/a> to suppress The Post\u2019s reporting because it could be part of a Russian effort to discredit then-candidate Biden in the weeks before the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>The first installment of the \u201cTwitter Files,\u201d based on reporting from journalist Matt Taibbi, showed that a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/12\/02\/elon-musk-releases-twitters-files-on-censorship-of-post\/\">group of top executives decided to censor The Post\u2019s<\/a> Hunter Biden expose without telling then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.<\/p>\n<p>The group of execs used the rationale that the reporting violated the platform\u2019s \u201chacked materials\u201d policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHacking was the excuse, but within a few hours, pretty much everyone realized that wasn\u2019t going to hold.
