The documents show how the FBI pressured Twitter to censor information in a partisan direction, usually under the guise of bolstering \u201celection integrity\u201d or combatting \u201cmisinformation\u201d about Covid-19. Shellenberger\u2019s reporting shows the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/20\/latest-twitter-files-bombshell-shows-fbi-neck-deep-in-russian-disinformation-lie-to-kill-hunter-biden-laptop-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fed lies to Twitter executives to justify its censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story<\/a> from The New York Post just weeks before the 2020 presidential election. Polling later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/mar\/24\/medias-suppression-of-hunter-laptop-was-election-i\/\">showed <\/a>that communications restriction tipped the election to Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>The internal documents disclosed in these reports show that FBI agents flagged specific information and individuals for Twitter employees to censor. Twitter employees would then comply, allowing U.S. intelligence agencies to manipulate public discussions and political outcomes, as well as restrict Americans\u2019 constitutional right to free speech in the public square. And it wasn\u2019t just the FBI using Big Tech to censor politically inconvenient information.<\/p>\n<p>As Taibbi reported, a Sept. 15, 2020 email from a Twitter legal executive to then-Twitter lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/19\/with-russia-hoaxer-jim-baker-on-the-inside-the-fbi-primed-twitter-to-kill-hunter-biden-story-long-before-it-broke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jim Baker<\/a> discussed Twitter employees\u2019 \u201cweekly\u201d meetings with the FBI, U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and \u201cindustry peers\u201d on addressing \u201celection threats.\u201d This means U.S. intelligence agency bureaucrats were meeting every week with the nation\u2019s Internet communications monopolies and telling them what to censor on their platforms leading up to the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>While this should be a smoking hot gun (and it is), what makes it worse is that the FBI is openly admitting that this kind of \u201cworking together\u201d with private sector companies is normal behavior for U.S. intelligence agencies. The FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/newspolitics\/status\/1603895440008654848\">tried<\/a> to characterize its censorship requests as voluntary ones Twitter technically could ignore, although such \u201crequests\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1603857603867598859\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">read<\/a> like commands and courts have long recognized that \u201crequests\u201d from government officials can be in themselves coercive because of the power differential. <\/p>\n<p>The question now is this: how many so-called \u201cprivate\u201d companies, such as Facebook, Google, Fortune 500 firms, and more, do the bidding of U.S. intelligence agencies that are renowned for their wildly partisan application of unequal standards?
