The trip to the nation\u2019s capital is Zelensky\u2019s first outside of his country since the Russian invasion began on February 24.<\/p>\n<p>White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/12\/21\/statement-by-white-house-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-on-the-visit-of-president-volodymyr-zelenskyy-of-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> late Tuesday that the Ukrainian president\u2019s trip will \u201cunderscore the United States\u2019 enduring commitment to Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree hundred days ago, Russia launched a brutal assault against Ukraine. In response, President Biden rallied the world to support the people of Ukraine as they defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity,\u201d Jean-Pierre said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the visit, President Biden will announce a significant new package of security assistance to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression. The visit will underscore the United States\u2019 steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes, including through the provision of economic, humanitarian, and military assistance,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky is expected to meet with Biden and U.S. national security leaders before holding a press conference at the White House. Afterward, the Ukrainian president will then deliver a speech in front of a joint session of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>During his meeting with Zelensky, Biden will not be \u201cpushing or prodding or poking Zelensky in any way\u201d about working for a solution to the war in Ukraine, a Biden administration official told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/21\/us\/politics\/zelensky-washington-biden-congress.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>. The official also said that Biden is committed to not getting the United States involved in an active war with Russia.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-refuses-to-limit-aid-to-ukraine-make-sure-they-are-not-defeated-by-russia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pledged<\/a> to continue supporting Ukraine \u201cas long as it takes\u201d to beat Russian President Vladimir Putin. \u201cI don\u2019t know how it\u2019s going to end, but it will not end with a Russian defeat of Ukraine in Ukraine,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>Congress is currently considering giving Ukraine $45 billion in aid as part of a roughly 4,000-page spending package.
