Here&#039;s why we see it as a positive\"   style=\"display:none\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"BucketItem-investingClubPillContainer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/investingclub\/\" class=\"InvestingClubPill-investingClubPillLink\" data-type=\"investing-club-button\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"BucketItem-investingClubPill InvestingClubPill-investingClubPill\" src=\"https:\/\/static-redesign.cnbcfm.com\/dist\/b0b683565c27c5457864.svg\" alt=\"CNBC Investing Club\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"BucketItem-textContainer BucketItem-icTextContainer\">\n<div class=\"BucketItem-bylineContainer\">\n<div class=\"BucketItem-publishTime\">16 hours ago<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A source familiar with the matter told CNBC that Bankman-Fried&#8217;s team is not anticipating further issues with the process.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried, his U.S. counsel and his local Bahamian attorney have appeared at odds over the last two days, which resulted in confusion and chaos in the Nassau courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried faces eight federal charges, including wire fraud, securities fraud and money laundering, related to the collapse of his crypto exchange, which sank into bankruptcy last month.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old MIT graduate now faces a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/12\/sam-bankman-fried-has-been-arrested-this-is-what-happens-next.html\">protracted trial process<\/a> and could possibly be free on bail while proceedings unfold.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office for the Southern District of New York argued that Bankman-Fried used $8 billion worth of customer assets for extravagant real estate purchases and vanity projects, including stadium naming rights and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/19\/how-ftx-founder-sbf-and-friends-quietly-donated-to-political-groups-and-relatives.html\">millions in political donations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried stands accused by federal law enforcement and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/13\/cftc-piles-on-with-new-charges-against-bankman-fried.html\">financial regulators<\/a> of perpetrating what the SEC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/13\/sam-bankman-fried-ran-ftx-as-fraud-from-the-start-sec-charges.html\">called<\/a> one of the largest and most &#8220;brazen&#8221; frauds in recent memory. Replacement CEO John J. Ray described a &#8220;complete failure of corporate control&#8221; at the company.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/13\/us-indicts-sam-bankman-fried-on-conspiracy-to-defraud-the-us-wire-fraud-securities-fraud-and-money-laundering.html\">indicted<\/a> in New York federal court on Dec. 9 and was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/12\/ftx-founder-sam-bankman-fried-arrested-in-the-bahamas-after-us-files-criminal-charges.html\">arrested<\/a> three days later by Bahamas law enforcement at the request of U.S. prosecutors.
