Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 16-6; the Open App Markets Act, co-sponsored by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), by 20-2. Schumer promised to get it done,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/lawmakers-push-vote-bipartisan-big-tech-antitrust-bill-2022-ends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) is a vocal opponent of these measures. (As it happens, Lofgren\u2019s daughter works on Google\u2019s legal team, while <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/30\/nancy-pelosi-buys-call-options-for-google-disney-stocks\/\">the Pelosis have made big money off Big Tech stock-trading<\/a>.) Or maybe McConnell <em>did<\/em> balk, as Schumer\u2019s camp has reportedly claimed.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/18\/schumers-daughters-work-for-amazon-facebook-as-he-holds-power-over-antitrust-bill\/\">Schumer has his own family Big Tech ties<\/a>: One of his daughters works for Facebook, another for Amazon \u2014 as a <em>lobbyist<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet earlier this year, Schumer supposedly committed to a vote this past summer. Then, in <em>August<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/08\/04\/sen-schumer-commits-to-bringing-antitrust-legislation-to-a-vote\/\">Schumer spokesman Angelo Roefaro told The Post<\/a>: \u201cSen. Schumer is working with Sen. So including them in the omnibus should make it <em>easier<\/em> to pass. And if the House and Senate don\u2019t act this month, it\u2019s back to square one.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no way opponents to these popular reforms have the votes to shut down the government over this issue; some backroom deal is at work here.
