The principal\u2019s superior then handed her a laptop and told her to draft her letter of resignation immediately, the lawsuit says.<\/p>\n<p>Geraghty is represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/press-release\/ohio-public-school-teacher-forced-resign-declining-put-religious-beliefs-aside\">filed<\/a> the lawsuit on her behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo school official can force a teacher to set her religious beliefs aside in order to keep her job,\u201d said ADF attorney Logan Spena. \u201cThe school tried to force Vivian to recite as true the school\u2019s viewpoint on issues that go to the foundation of morality and human identity, like what makes us male or female, by ordering her to personally participate in the social transition of her students. The First Amendment prohibits that abuse of power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Geraghty is not the first teacher to be disciplined over refusing to affirm a student\u2019s new gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>In March, a veteran teacher in Kansas, also a Christian,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/teacher-suspended-not-using-students-preferred-pronouns-sues-school-1686518\">sued<\/a> her school after she was suspended under the district\u2019s bullying and diversity and inclusion policies.\u00a0That teacher was also denied the religious exemption she requested for the district\u2019s new policy that teachers must use students\u2019 preferred names.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2018, a\u00a0Christian teacher in Indiana <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/litigation\/doj-says-christian-teacher-must-use-students-preferred-pronouns\">lost his job<\/a> after the school district decided to stop letting him refer to all students by their last names so he would not have to affirm \u201ctransgenderism.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Ohio teacher is suing her former school after she was forced to quit her job for not using students\u2019 new gender identity pronouns, she says.
