Among other challenges posed to the company has been leftist ire over the billionaire entrepreneur\u2019s claims to prioritize freedom of speech and publicize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fbi-responds-to-latest-release-of-the-twitter-files\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">censorious actions<\/a> from former management.<\/p>\n<p>Warren told Tesla Chair Robyn Denholm in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warren.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/2022.12.18%20Letter%20to%20Tesla%20Board%20on%20Musk%20Concerns.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> that the board has a responsibility to ensure that Musk \u201cfulfills his legal obligation to act in the best interests of Tesla and all of its shareholders, not just himself,\u201d as well as guarantee that he \u201cdoes not treat the company as a private plaything.\u201d She asked about specific oversight measures board members have created to determine whether Musk is adequately leading the automaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusk\u2019s acquisition of Twitter and his simultaneous management of both Twitter and Tesla raise significant legal questions about conflicts of interest, compliance with labor laws, and misappropriation of corporate resources,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-torches-elizabeth-warren-please-dont-call-the-manager-on-me-senator-karen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously clashed<\/a> with Musk over his supposed failure to pay a fair share of taxes, referenced his reported use of Tesla engineers to assume control of the social media company\u2019s code immediately following the acquisition. Though Musk has said that the employees volunteered to help him take over the platform, Warren cited one anonymous report claiming that \u201cmost would also feel it was impossible to turn down a direct request from Musk without later facing poor performance reviews or other consequences.\u201d Warren also said that using Tesla employees at Twitter could violate Musk\u2019s legal \u201cduty of loyalty to Tesla\u201d and \u201ctrigger questions\u201d about the board\u2019s responsibility to prevent such actions.<\/p>\n<p>Musk has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1600964083913588736?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarked<\/a> that he still oversees Tesla and SpaceX, where he says the teams \u201care so good that often little is needed\u201d from him. The serial entrepreneur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/dereksaul\/2022\/11\/16\/spacex-tesla-twitter-ceo-elon-musk-i-frankly-dont-want-to-be-ceo-of-any-company\/?sh=2e8350b47848\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in court last month that he holds no desire to be a chief executive \u201cof any company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warren also expressed concern that Twitter could artificially suppress advertising traffic for Chevrolet, Ford, Audi, and other automakers that compete with Tesla. On the other hand, she claimed that Musk could harm Tesla by promoting competitors in order to raise \u201cbadly-needed revenue\u201d for his acquisition, which was partially financed by debt.<\/p>\n<p>She cited statistics that found \u201chate speech\u201d impressions have risen after the buyout while providing a larger platform for \u201cNazis, virulent sexism, and climate misinformation\u201d in a way that could harm the Tesla brand image, claims which Musk has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/musk-fires-back-at-schiff-over-hate-speech-on-twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">directly contested<\/a>. The billionaire recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/extremely-messed-up-elon-musk-blasts-activist-groups-for-pushing-advertisers-to-ditch-twitter-destroy-free-speech-in-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slammed activist groups<\/a> for pressuring advertisers to abandon the platform over the purported rise in undesirable speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusk and Tesla are inextricably intertwined, and while this close relationship has benefited the company in the past, recent developments may have brought a series of negatives to the forefront,\u201d Warren concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Net favorability of Tesla among Democrats has indeed fallen 20.3 percentage points between October and November, the time frame of Musk\u2019s Twitter purchase, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/morningconsult.com\/2022\/11\/17\/elon-musks-politically-polarizing-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> from Morning Consult. On the other hand, net favorability among Republicans increased by 3.9 points over the same period.
