The news cycle is polluted by examples of Hollywood\u2019s politicization, as studio execs and celebrities have decided that\u00a0demonstrating their allegiance to progressive causes is more gratifying than making great art. Politicians might as well make the movies \u2014 and now they are.<\/p>\n<p>Appropriately named to remind audiences to remain seated until credits roll, the climate change documentary\u00a0\u201cTo the End\u201d debuted in movie theaters nationwide on Dec. 9. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bN4QZwyAOrg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The trailer<\/a> introduces four progressive leaders, each representing a different contribution to what is depicted as a grassroots environmental movement among the younger generation: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alexandra_Rojas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alexandra Rojas<\/a>, a political strategist; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rhiana_Gunn-Wright\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rhiana Gunn-Wright<\/a>, a climate policy writer; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Varshini_Prakash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Varshini Prakash<\/a>, a community activist; and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alexandria_Ocasio-Cortez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a>, a U.S. government official. <\/p>\n<p>The congresswoman fulfills the film\u2019s leading role, and she is shown entering the Capitol to \u201cget her hands dirty\u201d and pass legislation that will be the \u201cmoonshot of our generation.\u201d Accompanied by an uplifting song, shots of miscellaneous climate change protests are interspersed with sound bites from the four leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Audio stating that \u201cthe media is expecting us to fail\u201d plays, followed by a text from RobertEbert.com\u2019s Nick Allen, describing the film as \u201cset to ignite more Americans to take action.\u201d Americans were not ignited to act, especially to watch this film. After debuting on more than 120 screens on the weekend it was released, \u201cTo the End\u201d came in 33rd place overall at the box office, garnering less than $10,000 across all theaters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/aoc-climate-change-documentary-earns-80-theatre-critic-reviews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meaning the movie made roughly $80 per location<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Despite the reality of the numbers, critics like TheWrap\u2019s Elizabeth Weitzman praised AOC\u2019s performance as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/to_the_end\/reviews?intcmp=rt-scorecard_tomatometer-reviews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cpainfully poignant,\u201d representative of \u201c\u2026the blend of optimism, desperation, and determination that powers the entire film.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The former bartender was served a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/to_the_end\/reviews?intcmp=rt-scorecard_tomatometer-reviews\">\u201cfresh\u201d critic score of 83<\/a> percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and it is too early for the website to display an audience score. However, there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/to_the_end\/reviews?type=user&#038;intcmp=rt-scorecard_audience-score-reviews\">several one-star audience reviews<\/a>, with one user describing the film as what would be produced if \u201c\u2026a group of middle school kids with no knowledge of science tried to make a climate change movie.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Footage of AOC trekking through a forest was not enough to convince average Americans of the film\u2019s exigence. After <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/21\/fake-accents-and-sassy-dance-moves-wont-save-aoc-from-her-enraged-constituents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mocking disgruntled constituents at a town hall in October<\/a>, the congresswoman struggles to convince Americans that she battles elite politicians for the betterment of the planet because she is an elite politician.<\/p>\n<p>Although she was elected in New York\u2019s 14th congressional district as <a href=\"https:\/\/money.com\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-career\/\">an underdog<\/a> in 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2021-09-14\/met-gala-2021-aoc-tax-the-rich-dress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AOC\u2019s infamous appearance at the 2021 Met Gala<\/a> in a \u201cTax the Rich\u201d dress exemplifies her shift in priorities. The fusion of entertainment and politics is unavoidable in modern American culture. Like celebrities, politicians must carefully curate their image to respond to popular demand. <\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, there has been a rising perception that politicians like AOC have abandoned their constituents to bolster themselves within elite circles of influence like those found in Hollywood.
