Version: 4.0.47--><p>Director <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/heres-why-betting-against-avatar-2-and-james-cameron-is-a-mistake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Cameron<\/a> appeared to take issue with some fans after a special screening of his latest film \u2014 \u201cAvatar: The Way of Water\u201d \u2014 flipping them the bird when they booed him for refusing to stop and sign a few autographs.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2022\/12\/18\/james-cameron-flips-off-middle-finger-autograph-seekers-avatar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">entertainment website TMZ<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/movie-director-james-cameron-testosterone-a-toxin-that-men-should-work-out-of-their-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cameron<\/a> was at the WGA building in Beverly Hills on Saturday for the special screening \u2014 and when he went to leave, he was immediately surrounded by a crowd of fans clamoring for autographs.<\/p>\n<p>As Cameron stepped into a waiting vehicle without stopping to sign anything, the crowd flipped on the famed director. \u201cF*** Avatar,\u201d someone said \u2014 and Cameron responded by rolling down his window just far enough to flash his middle finger at the crowd.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">James Cameron flips off crowd who boos him for not signing autographs <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AvatarTheWayOfWater?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AvatarTheWayOfWater<\/a> <br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/frDDoY4alM\">pic.twitter.com\/frDDoY4alM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Culture Crave \ud83c\udf7f (@CultureCrave) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CultureCrave\/status\/1604621184611471360?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The long-awaited sequel to Cameron\u2019s visually stunning 2009 film has <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/box-office\/avatar-2-box-office-opening-weekend-1235464497\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">done well<\/a> at the box office so far, bringing in $134 million in North America and an additional $301 million from overseas markets \u2014 which places \u201cThe Way of Water\u201d near the top for post-COVID opening weekends \u2014 but that may not be enough to balance the scales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Way of Water\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/entertainment-business-movies-james-cameron-338f3afa90a3e5844bf43413ef452dc1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">still fell short<\/a> of the predicted $150-175 million for it\u2019s first weekend in North American theaters \u2014 and with a $350 million price tag just for making the film, not to mention marketing it, the latest \u201cAvatar\u201d installment reportedly needs to land high among the top-grossing films of all time if producers expect to break even on the project.<\/p>\n<p>But Cameron appears to have bet everything on the world he has created \u2014 he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/james-cameron-profile-men-of-the-year-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told GQ<\/a>\u00a0in November that he had already filmed the third installment in the series and the first act of a fourth film. When GQ pressed him on the possibility that, given his age, he might not ever make another film that was not a part of the franchise, he pushed back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think first of all, that\u2019s really unhealthy. Secondly, I\u2019m not done until the big hook comes out from the side of the side curtain. So to me, everything, every idea, is a work in progress,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Disney <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/entertainment-business-movies-james-cameron-338f3afa90a3e5844bf43413ef452dc1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seems confident<\/a> that Cameron\u2019s gamble will pay off as well. Tony Chambers, Disney\u2019s EVP for theatrical distribution, said, \u201cWe\u2019ve got a terrific movie that is playing across all demographics and (has) terrific word of mouth. We\u2019ve got the screens and we\u2019ve got a clear run. This isn\u2019t about the opening day or the opening weekend.
