Inouye International Airport in Honolulu when the pilots reported severe turbulence around 10:20 a.m. Hawaii Standard Time on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Honolulu Emergency Medical Services <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/health-phoenix-honolulu-432c1e2bfdf05cd15636fb8c26698255?taid=639fa54e8456220001defd6e&#038;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&#038;utm_medium=AP&#038;utm_source=Twitter\">told<\/a> The Associated Press that responders treated 36 patients, with at least 20 patients transported for further medical treatment, including serious head injuries, cuts, bruises \u2013 some patients had been knocked unconscious.<\/p>\n<p>The youngest patient treated was 14 months old.<\/p>\n<p>Agency officials said eleven people were in serious condition, and nine were in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>An airline spokesperson told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\/2022\/12\/18\/multiple-injuries-reported-after-plane-lands-honolulus-airport-following-apparent-turbulence\/\">local media<\/a> that \u201cthe airline is supporting all affected passengers and employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local media reported The National Weather Service said the severe turbulence occurred at about 36,000 feet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe the flight may have gone through a thunderstorm, which may have caused the severe turbulence,\u201d NWS meteorologist Genki Kino said. \u201cDuring that time, there were scattered thunderstorms everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kaylee Reyes, a passenger, told local media that the incident happened just as her mother had just sat down without a chance to buckle her seatbelt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe flew up and hit the ceiling,\u201d Reyes said.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BREAKING?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BREAKING<\/a>: At least 36 people were injured, including 11 seriously, Sunday after a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix to Honolulu hit severe turbulence about 30 minutes before landing.
