Although both candidates picked up new votes, including 128 between them in Cameron County, Hinojosa failed to gain enough to take the lead, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/12\/16\/morgan-lamantia-adam-hinojosa-texas-senate-recount-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to The Texas Tribune<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>LaMantia declared victory on Wednesday. \u201cI am pleased to confirm what we already knew: we won the race for Senate District 27,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lamantia4texas\/status\/1603106379815862276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she said in a statement<\/a> on the recount results.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KvRmiUrpnO\">pic.twitter.com\/KvRmiUrpnO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Morgan LaMantia (@lamantia4texas) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lamantia4texas\/status\/1603106379815862276?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hinojosa, who <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Adam_Hinojosa#Campaign_themes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prioritized issues<\/a> such as border security, the economy, and education,\u00a0had endorsements from top Republicans in the state, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gregabbott.com\/governor-abbott-endorses-adam-hinojosa-for-texas-senate-district-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor Greg Abbott<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.danpatrick.org\/patrick-endorses-hinojosa-for-texas-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lt. Governor Dan Patrick<\/a>. He also had the backing of Trump, who at a rally in South Texas in late October said Hinojosa had his <a href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/former-president-donald-trump-corpus-christi-rally-maga-texas-early-voting-2022\/12365019\/\">\u201ccomplete and total endorsement.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Republicans added <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/11\/09\/texas-legislature-2022-election-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">small gains to their majorities<\/a> in both chambers of the state legislature this election cycle, but Hinojosa\u2019s defeat adds to the mixed bag of results for Republicans in South Texas, where they hoped to make gains in an area where Democrats have a beachhead in the red state.<\/p>\n<p>Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/politics\/texas\/article\/Republicans-spent-millions-to-flip-South-Texas-17573079.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spending millions of dollars<\/a> in a South Texas effort, the GOP had only one of its candidates win among three key U.S. House races \u2014 Monica De La Cruz, the <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/republican-monica-la-cruz-flips-083824167.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first Hispanic woman elected<\/a> to represent Texas\u2019 15th Congressional District. She will take over the state Senate seat held by Eddie Lucio Jr., a conservative Democrat who sometimes broke ranks with his party on issues such as abortion and gay rights, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/11\/09\/texas-legislature-2022-election-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">per the Texas Tribune<\/a>.
