Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Bob Good (R-VA), and Ralph Norman (R-SC). Some bad things could happen. Look, we had Boehner and he was a strange person but we ended up with Paul Ryan who was ten times worse. Paul Ryan was an incompetent speaker. I think he goes down as the worst speaker in history. We took [out] Boehner\u2014and a group of people, some of whom are the same, and they\u2019re very good friends of mine. Nationally syndicated radio host Mark Levin has raised the concerns, as have people such as Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and James Comer (R-KY)\u2014the incoming chairmen respectively of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees. Congresswoman-elect Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, who just defeated outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), has also warned of the concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also expanded on the point of just how bad Ryan was for the party, saying Boehner was like a historic world leader in comparison, and now Republicans have to \u201clive with this maniac\u201d Ryan, who he said is hurting Fox News and the <em>New York Post<\/em> from his position on the board at the Fox Corporation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">\u201cThink of it\u2014we ended up with Paul Ryan. Boehner was like Winston Churchill compared to Paul Ryan,\u201d Trump said. \u201cBoehner wasn\u2019t perfect\u2014nobody\u2019s perfect\u2014but Paul Ryan was a disaster for the Republican Party. That\u2019s what we got. Now we have to live with him. He\u2019s destroying Fox and he\u2019s destroying the <em>New York Post<\/em>. We got to live with this maniac. This guy, Paul Ryan, couldn\u2019t have gotten elected in his own area of Wisconsin. I went with him after I won the election and we had a tremendous crowd of people and they booed him off the stage. You remember that? They booed him off the stage. This guy is now telling Fox what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Asked if this all means he backs McCarthy in the race, Trump said, \u201cYeah, I support McCarthy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody wants my support,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI was 99 percent on endorsements [in the primary]. I don\u2019t know the percentage but I was 233 and 22 on general election. Everybody would say that \u2018yeah for the nomination he\u2019s incredible but for the general election\u2026\u2019 But what\u2019s that percentage? 233 and 22\u2014it\u2019s incredible. They always want my endorsement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then Trump further explained why he believes McCarthy deserves the gavel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, I think this: Kevin has worked very hard,\u201d Trump said. \u201cHe is just\u2014it\u2019s been exhausting. If you think, he\u2019s been all over. I think he deserves the shot. Hopefully he\u2019s going to be very strong and going to be very good and he\u2019s going to do what everybody wants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">Trump also noted, again without naming them specifically, that he is \u201cfriendly\u201d with many of the people working against McCarthy\u2014but warned them to knock it off or they could make things worse. Trump even referenced the concerns, as a recent Breitbart News article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/11\/28\/exclusive-conservatives-warn-of-doomsday-scenario-if-mccarthy-fails-in-speaker-race-where-democrats-neuter-gop-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>, warning of a \u201cdoomsday scenario\u201d where Democrats might partner with an establishment Republican, if McCarthy goes down, to hand that establishment figure the Speakership. In exchange for Democrat votes, the concern is that such a Republican might agree to a House rules change, weakening or altogether scrapping subpoena power.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cNow, I\u2019m friendly with a lot of those people who are against Kevin. I think almost every one of them are very much inclined toward Trump, and me toward them. But I have to tell them, and I have told them, you\u2019re playing a very dangerous game,\u201d Trump said. \u201cYou could end up with the worse situation. I don\u2019t even want to say what it is, but I could tell you it\u2019s a worse situation. You could end up with some very bad situations. I use the Boehner to Paul Ryan example. You understand what I\u2019m saying? It could be a doomsday scenario. It could be.
