The group is supposed to put a dollar sign to the reparations that are being considered \u2014 the first serious attempt to quantify what reparations advocates believe to be \u201cjustice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, economic research conducted by the task force figured that each black person in California<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/rick-moran\/2022\/12\/02\/california-reparations-committee-recommends-223k-each-for-states-black-or-african-american-residents-n1650331\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> is owed $225,000<\/a> for housing discrimination. Now, Max Fennell, a 35-year-old businessman, has told the task force that all black Californians should get an additional $350,000 to help \u201cshrink the racial wealth gap\u201d and \u201cright historical wrongs,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/community-family\/black-people-get-350000-reparations-california-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Examiner.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He also believes that black businesses should get a $250,000 grant and 15-20 acres of land.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a debt that\u2019s owed, we worked for free \u2026 we\u2019re not asking; we\u2019re telling you,\u201d he told the panel, the <i>Daily Mail<\/i> <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11540503\/Activist-demands-600k-California-taxpayers-meeting-states-reparations-task-force.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. \u201cThe tangibles of what I\u2019m asking for is $350,000 per black American in California \u2014 that\u2019s tangible, small business grant $250,000, and land 15-20 acres.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I daresay that the value of \u201c15-20 acres\u201d varies wildly depending on where the acreage is. Who gets the beachfront property and who gets Death Valley?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>California Gov. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gavin-newsom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gavin Newsom<\/a> signed a bill establishing the task force in 2020. Since then, it has spent over a year studying the issue and began public deliberations over how to quantify financially the debt owed to black Americans for historical injustices, such as slavery, housing discrimination, mass incarceration, and more. The panel has until July 1 to complete its report and send recommendations to the state legislature.<\/p>\n<p>Some 60 people were in attendance at the meeting on Wednesday, the <i>Associated Press<\/i> <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/california-sacramento-oakland-8941e77405b87c91b9d235f42038380e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> . The meeting took place in the Oakland City Hall, in the city that served as the birthplace for the Black Panthers, a black power political group that was heavily active in the 1960s and 1980s.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There are two elements that make this plan \u2014 and others that will surely follow \u2014 unworkable and immoral. The idea that you can condemn an entire race of people for anything is unfair and immoral. I don\u2019t care what kind of convoluted pretzel logic you want to use to justify it; the notion of collective racial guilt is an abomination of justice.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, that\u2019s not going to stop the race hustlers from looking to soak the American people for trillions of dollars. The generations of Americans who supported slavery or countenanced it are all long dead and buried. Who gets how much? How \u201cblack\u201d does one have to be to get the government goodies? Should a recipient of reparations have to be able to prove a slave ancestry?<\/p>\n<p>That last will be difficult considering the paucity of official records. And if we\u2019re giving reparations to the victims of discrimination, shouldn\u2019t an individual have to prove direct harm as a result of a discriminatory act? Are we to throw out the law in the name of \u201cracial justice\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>I am 100% behind any effort by any individual to receive compensation for slavery or discrimination \u2014 as long as they can prove in a court of law that they have been directly harmed by a discriminatory act.<\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t have only justice or only the law.
