Kennedy (JFK), including versions of documents that were previously released but with more words unredacted.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. National Archives on Dec. 15 released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/research\/jfk\/release2022\">13,173 files online<\/a>, under the direction of President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>The files include an unredacted\u00a0Dec. 13, 1963, CIA report (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/files\/research\/jfk\/releases\/2022\/104-10004-10199.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) that reveals the CIA had help from Mexican authorities when they intercepted a call from Lee Harvey Oswald placed earlier that year from Mexico City to the Soviet Embassy in the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis piece of information was produced from a telephone tap center which we operate jointly with the office of the President of Mexico,\u201d the document states. The text beyond \u201ccenter\u201d had been redacted.<\/p>\n<p>Another portion that was newly revealed states that even Mexican security and law enforcement officials were not aware of the arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>JFK was shot dead on Nov. 22, 1963. Oswald was arrested for the assassination and denied killing the president.<\/p>\n<p>While Oswald was being held at a police station in Dallas, a local nightclub owner, Jack Ruby, murdered him on Nov. 24, 1963.<\/p>\n<p>Some have theorized that Ruby and Oswald knew each other. The CIA said in one of the newly released files (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/files\/research\/jfk\/releases\/2022\/104-10005-10182.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) that it had \u201cno indication\u201d that Ruby and Oswald \u201cever knew each other, were associated, or might have been connected in any manner.\u201d That file had already been released. The statement was not hidden before, but other portions were, including an agent\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>The Warren Commission, created by presidential order by Kennedy\u2019s successor President Lyndon B. Johnson,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/research\/jfk\/warren-commission-report\/chapter-1#conclusions\">concluded<\/a> that the shots that killed Kennedy were fired by Oswald.<\/p>\n<p>Surveys of Americans over the years have found most believe Oswald was not the only person involved in Kennedy\u2019s killing.<\/p>\n<p>Some key portions of some documents remain redacted. That includes a full page, and a half of another, in a memorandum (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/files\/research\/jfk\/releases\/2022\/176-10030-10422.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) presidential adviser Arthur Schlesinger wrote in 1961.<\/p>\n<p>Over 97 percent of the records in the\u00a0John F. (Dallas Police Department\/Dallas Municipal Archives\/University of North Texas via Reuters)<\/figure>\n<h2>Records Withheld<\/h2>\n<p>Entire records are also still being withheld, per an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2022\/12\/15\/memorandum-on-certifications-regarding-disclosure-of-information-in-certain-records-related-to-the-assassination-of-president-john-f-kennedy\/\">executive order<\/a> from Biden released on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Biden said that unnamed agencies \u201chave identified a limited number of records containing information for continued postponement of public disclosure\u201d and that acting Archivist Debra Wall recommended keeping some of those records from the public.<\/p>\n<p>Biden agreed, certifying the continued postponement of the disclosure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree that continued postponement of public disclosure of such information is warranted to protect against an identifiable harm to the military defense, intelligence operations, law enforcement, or the conduct of foreign relations that is of such gravity that it outweighs the public interest in disclosure,\u201d the president stated.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0JFK Assassination Records Collection Act, signed into law in 1992, mandated the release of all government documents relating to the\u00a0JFK assassination by Oct. 26, 2017. That deadline, though, could be delayed for records that could threaten national defense.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump on the deadline day ordered the release of many records but also said he\u2019d acceded to proposals from agencies for the continued redaction of some records and the continued shielding of others \u201cbecause of national security, law enforcement, and foreign affairs concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden has kept up the postponement of the release of some records, including with his latest order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden believes all information related to President Kennedy\u2019s assassination should be released to the greatest extent possible consistent with \u2026 national security,\u201d White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters in Washington.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4929248\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/biden-marine-one-1200x800-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4929248\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy size-large wp-image-4929248\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/biden-marine-one-1200x800-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4929248\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/biden-marine-one-1200x800-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> President Joe Biden steps off Marine One in Washington on Dec. 16, 2022. (Mandel Ngan\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<h2>Next Steps<\/h2>\n<p>Biden directed Wall to conduct a review of the rest of the redacted records so more can be made public. If Wall recommends against any proposed redactions, agencies much drop the proposals or make their case directly to the president\u2019s counsel on a document-by-document basis for the redactions.<\/p>\n<p>The archives said it was working with the Department of Justice to figure out whether information on some records withheld in full due to being under court seal or because of \u201cgrand jury secrecy\u201d could be released.<\/p>\n<p>After the review Biden directed, more information will become public by June 30, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The Mary Ferrell Foundation, which sued the Biden administration in October over the continued postponement of the release of some records, did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The organization said in its suit, filed in U.S. court in northern California, that Biden and his administration were illegally postponing the release of so many records, and asked the court to compel Biden to provide \u201cclear and convincing evidence\u201d any harm from the disclosure of each record still being withheld would outweigh the public interest.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-zachary-stieber\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/WEB_ZacharyStieber-1.jpg\" alt=\"Zachary Stieber\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Zachary Stieber is a senior reporter for The Epoch Times based in Maryland.
