The suitcases and their contents had a combined value of over $9,000, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/former-biden-official-sam-brintons-mug-shot-released-bail-set-15000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police<\/a> and court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-non-binary-nuclear-official-charged-stealing-womans-luggage-airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It\u2019s official. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/former-biden-official-sam-brintons-mug-shot-released-bail-set-15000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">faces<\/a> up to ten years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Before his stint in the Biden administration, Brinton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/sam-brinton-helped-craft-model-school-policy-keeping-parents-dark-kids-gender-change?intcmp=tw_fnc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worked<\/a>\u00a0for The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that says it works to prevent LGBT youth suicides. In 2019 while directing advocacy and government affairs for\u00a0The Trevor Project, Brinton helped create a model school district policy for suicide prevention.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrevorproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Model_School_Policy_Booklet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">model policy,<\/a>\u00a0which several states have adopted, says schools should hide suicidal students\u2019 sexual orientation and gender identity from their parents unless the student wants their parents to know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a parent is notified of perceived suicide risk or an attempt, it is essential that the school maintain student confidentiality related to personal information such as sexual orientation or gender identity, especially when the student has not already disclosed to the parent or guardian and does not want it shared,\u201d the model policy states. \u201cInformation shared should be restricted to the perceived risk of suicide or facts of the attempt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisclosing a student\u2019s sexual orientation or gender identity without their explicit consent can in some cases endanger the student and at a minimum will impair the rapport developed with the professional,\u201d the model continues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough discussion with the student, the principal or school-employed mental health professional will assess whether there is further risk of harm due to parent or guardian notification. If the principal, designee, or mental health professional believes, in their professional capacity, that contacting the parent or guardian would endanger the health or well-being of the student, they may delay such contact as appropriate,\u201d it continues.<\/p>\n<p>Brinton touted the model school policy at the time in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, our research shows that more than half of LGBTQ youth are not out to a single adult in school; these policies show LGBTQ youth, out or not, that their school is a safe place for them to learn, and that school staff are prepared to help them in times of crisis,\u201d Brinton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/four-leading-national-organizations-launch-suicide-prevention-template-plan-for-schools-300913539.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Trevor Project\u2019s model school policy has been adopted at least partially by the state\u00a0education departments in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azed.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022\/01\/School%20Behavioral%20Health%20Resource%20Guide%2012_06_2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sde.idaho.gov\/student-engagement\/ilp\/files\/policies\/Model-Suicide-Prevention-Policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/sam-brinton-helped-craft-model-school-policy-keeping-parents-dark-kids-gender-change?intcmp=tw_fnc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as well as<\/a>\u00a0local school districts in California,\u00a0New Hampshire, and Oregon.
