Twitter\u2019s contact with the FBI was constant and pervasive, as if it were a subsidiary,&#8221; Taibbi began the thread on Friday. &#8220;Between January 2020 and November 2022, there were over 150 emails between the FBI and former Twitter Trust and Safety chief Yoel Roth\u2026 a surprisingly high number are requests by the FBI for Twitter to take action on election misinformation, even involving joke tweets from low-follower accounts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Taibbi highlighted the FBI&#8217;s social media task force established after the 2016 presidential election to monitor foreign interference prominently featured in the Twitter Files.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do agencies like FBI and DHS do in-house flagging work themselves, or farm it out? \u2018You have to prove to me that inside the f&#8212;ing government you can do any kind of massive data or AI search,\u2019 says one former intelligence officer,&#8221; Taibbi wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/bari-weiss-claps-back-critics-saying-twitter-files-cherry-picks-reporting-twitter-misled-public\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>BARI WEISS CLAPS BACK AT CRITICS SAYING TWITTER FILES \u2018CHERRY-PICKS\u2019 REPORTING: \u2018TWITTER MISLED THE PUBLIC\u2019<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-ct inline\">\n<div class=\"m\"><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 767px) and (max-width: 1023px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1024px) and (max-width: 1279px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1280px)\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/640\/320\/2018-12-07T175106Z_638792288_RC1AD5EDA230_RTRMADP_3_USA-TRUMP-BARR.jpg?ve=1&#038;tl=1\" alt=\"FBI headquarters building is seen in Washington, U.S. Pro-Russian hackers have claimed to have hacked the FBI website this week.\"   style=\"display:none\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p>\n      FBI headquarters building is seen in Washington, U.S. Pro-Russian hackers have claimed to have hacked the FBI website this week.<br \/>\n      <span class=\"copyright\">(Reuters\/Yuri Gripas)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He then shared an email sent to &#8220;Twitter contacts&#8221; from an FBI official listing multiple Twitter accounts that &#8220;may potentially constitute violations of Twitter&#8217;s Terms of Service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Twitter personnel in that case went on to look for reasons to suspend all four accounts, including @fromma , whose tweets are almost all jokes (see sample below), including his \u2018civic misinformation\u2019 of Nov. 8,&#8221; Taibbit tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>Taibbi went viral with the first installment of the &#8220;Twitter Files&#8221; earlier this month which focused on Twitter&#8217;s internal discussions leading to it censoring the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/hunter-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Hunter Biden laptop story<\/u><\/a> during the 2020 presidential election, with some officials struggling to explain how it violated its &#8220;hacked materials&#8221; policies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/ex-nyt-columnist-swipes-media-downplaying-twitter-files-less-interesting-facebook-leaks-made-front-pages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>EX-NYT COLUMNIST SWIPES MEDIA DOWNPLAYING TWITTER FILES: \u2018LESS INTERESTING\u2019 FACEBOOK LEAKS MADE FRONT PAGES<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was later revealed that the first batch of &#8220;Twitter Files&#8221; were vetted without Musk&#8217;s knowledge by Twitter deputy general counsel Jim Baker, who previously served as the FBI&#8217;s general counsel and was involved in the Russia probe. Musk fired Baker shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>Baker was swept up Taibbi&#8217;s reporting about the suppression of the Hunter Biden story, telling his colleagues at the time, &#8220;I support the conclusion that we need more facts to assess whether the materials were hacked&#8221; but added, &#8220;it&#8217;s reasonable for us to assume that they may have been and that caution is warranted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Taibbi initially reported, &#8220;Although several sources recalled hearing about a \u2018general\u2019 warning from federal law enforcement that summer about possible foreign hacks, there\u2019s no evidence &#8211; of prominent conservatives, including Fox News host Dan Bongino, Turning Point USA&#8217;s Charlie Kirk, as well as Stanford University&#8217;s Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a longstanding opponent of COVID groupthink during the pandemic who expressed opposition to lockdowns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/cnns-twitter-files-coverage-involving-hunter-biden-laptop-story-glaring-omissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>CNN&#8217;S \u2018TWITTER FILES\u2019 COVERAGE INVOLVING HUNTER BIDEN LAPTOP STORY HAS GLARING OMISSIONS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Internal communications also reveal Twitter staffers admitting that the popular account Libs of TikTok never violated its &#8220;hateful conduct&#8221; policy despite being punished several times for allegedly doing so.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The third, fourth and fifth installments of the &#8220;Twitter Files&#8221; focused on the permanent suspension of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>former President Trump<\/u><\/a> around the Capitol riot events in January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Taibbi reported how Twitter circulated election-related tweets from various users leading up to the 2020 election that were &#8220;flagged&#8221; Moments later, the so-called &#8220;scaled enforcement team&#8221; suggested that based on how Twitter interprets Trump&#8217;s tweets, it could violate the violence incitement policies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Musk had been vocal about being transparent when it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/tech\/companies\/twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Twitter&#8217;s past and present actions<\/u><\/a> curating content on the platform, including censored content.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-meta\">\n<div class=\"author-bio\">\n<p>Joseph A.
