This week, Musk decided he\u2019s no longer allowing anyone, including journalists, to jeopardize people\u2019s safety via Twitter, and he began temporarily suspending the accounts of offending members of the press.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s going to be treated the same. You\u2019re not special because you\u2019re a journalist,\u201d Musk wrote in a Twitter post.<\/p>\n<p>The crackdown on doxxing is personal for Twitter\u2019s CEO. On Wednesday, Musk reported that his 2-year-old son named \u201cX\u201d was followed by a \u201ccrazy stalker\u201d who had mistaken X for Musk. According to Musk, the stalker blocked the car driving his son and \u201cclimbed onto the hood.\u201d The incident motivated Musk to suspend several high-profile journalists guilty of doxxing.<\/p>\n<p>This caused the corporate media to fly into hysterics. \u201cElon Musk censors the press,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/16\/tech\/musk-censors-press\/index.html\">said<\/a> one CNN headline.\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/12\/16\/twitter-journalist-suspensions-media-elon-musk?utm_source=twitter&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_campaign=editorial\">[U]nprecedented<\/a>,\u201d stated the flabbergasted Axios. \u201cTwitter suspends journalists who wrote about owner Elon Musk,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/elon-musk-technology-business-dac21de7abb6167bb604f5317aeda10a\">alleged<\/a> The Associated Press. \u201cMusk has begun banning journalists who have criticized him on Twitter,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1603575877538680832?s=20&#038;t=PqydNW2FK0M9Gjqc_zZfLA\">whined<\/a> Washington Post TikTok reporter Taylor Lorenz.<\/p>\n<p>All this outrage is performative. Firstly, Musk made it clear why the journalists are suspended, and it\u2019s not because they \u201ccriticized\u201d him, as Lorenz said. \u201cCriticizing me all day long is totally fine, but doxxing my real-time location and endangering my family is not,\u201d wrote Musk.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, the propaganda press doesn\u2019t care about freedom of the press or free speech. They cheer on and instigate the de-platforming of competing journalists and news organizations. The only thing the media cares about is losing its monopoly on digital discourse and the special treatment it received from pre-Musk Twitter staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Before Musk, the corporate media enjoyed gross privileges awarded to them by their ideological allies at Twitter. When <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/04\/20\/taylor-lorenz-attacked-libs-of-tik-tok-because-corrupt-medias-main-function-now-is-to-destroy-the-right-not-understand-its-appeal\/\">Lorenz <\/a>outed the identity of the formerly anonymous woman who runs the \u201cLibs of TikTok\u201d Twitter account, Lorenz was never disciplined. As the \u201cThe Twitter Files\u201d reveal, if Twitter staff did try to sanction left-wing users for violating Twitter rules, senior executives at the company would swoop in behind the scenes and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1601374328670474240?s=20&#038;t=s4oO437tsZF2KzRUfx4oMg\">protect<\/a> them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, countless conservative journalists were subject to random suspensions, locked accounts, and bans for harassment-free thought crimes.\u00a0The Federalist\u2019s Senior Editor John Davidson continues to be <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/30\/twitter-locked-my-account-for-telling-the-truth-about-rachel-levine\/\">locked<\/a> out of his Twitter account because in March he tweeted the truth: Rachel Levine, the U.S. assistant secretary for health, is a man. Levine, a transgender male, is indeed a man and no amount of makeup or surgery will change that, yet Twitter penalized Davidson for promoting \u201chate speech.\u201d\u00a0It still is penalizing him.<\/p>\n<p>The Federalist\u2019s CEO and co-founder Sean Davis was also targeted by pre-Musk Twitter and his account is still subject to a shadowban today. That means Davis\u2019s posts are reduced in their ability to reach people. The reason for the shadowban remains unclear, but it\u2019s fair to assume the censorship was politically motivated.
