The Canadian director can be seen enjoying the show along with movie stars Zoe Salda\u00f1a, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang as well as producer Jon Landau.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron jokingly <a href=\"https:\/\/nz.news.yahoo.com\/avatar-2-premiere-sparks-outrage-cruel-dolphin-stunt-slammed-way-of-water-james-cameron-japan-the-cove-003810174.html\">said<\/a> of the dolphins that he was confident that \u201ceverybody asked their permission to be in the show.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love these animals, I love their intelligence,\u201d he said. \u201cI love their sociability, their ability to connect with us and to interact with us and learn from us.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>PETA U.S. Senior Vice President Lisa Lange expressed her outrage over the use of live dolphins to promote the movie.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJames Cameron waited 13 years for the development of the right technology to bring the underwater world of Pandora to life,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/plantbasednews.org\/news\/celebrities\/james-cameron-vegan-attends-dolphin-promote-avatar-2\/\">told<\/a> Plant Based News. \u201cSo why on Earth didn\u2019t he pause for just five minutes to consider whether he should have allowed himself to be seen as endorsing the cruelty of marine parks?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConfining far-ranging dolphins to concrete tanks and using them as surfboards \u2013 riding on their faces in circus-style shows \u2013 is something the villains of \u2018Avatar\u2019 would do,\u201d she continued. \u201cPETA urges him to reject such animal misery outright and encourages everyone to shun these cruel parks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lange also <a href=\"https:\/\/au.news.yahoo.com\/avatar-2-premiere-sparks-outrage-cruel-dolphin-stunt-slammed-way-of-water-james-cameron-japan-the-cove-003810174.html\">told<\/a> Yahoo News Australia that she originally believed the dolphins were animatronics or some kind of \u201cmovie magic,\u201d but then discovered they were real animals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo see James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, and Sam Worthington sitting there applauding was shocking,\u201d Lange told the publication. \u201cThe trainers were treating those dolphins like circus clowns. They were riding on the noses of the dolphins, I mean, that\u2019s as bad as it gets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She wasn\u2019t the only one furious at Cameron.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCaptive dolphins are confined to a tiny, barren, artificial environment 200 thousand times smaller than their natural habitat. They endure severe suffering and distress and live much shorter lives on average than their wild counterparts,\u201d World Animal Protection group director Cameron Harsh <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/12\/15\/james-cameron-slammed-for-cruel-dolphin-stunt-at-avatar-2-premiere\/\">said<\/a> in a statement, calling Cameron\u2019s decision \u201cconfoundingly out of step\u201d with his reputation.<\/p>\n<p>Many fans and activists went so far as to call for boycotts of the new \u201cAvatar\u201d movie.
