She then claimed \u201cwomen were pitted against each other\u201d on purpose, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-star-sarah-michelle-gellar-extremely-toxic-male-set-early-career\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf women became friends, then we became too powerful, so you had to keep that down,\u201d the \u201cCruel Intentions\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">star<\/a> continued.<\/p>\n<p>While Gellar didn\u2019t name the set she was speaking of, other people involved in \u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer,\u201d in which Gellar starred from 1997 to 2003, have been openly critical of working with the show\u2019s creator, Joss Whedon.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2021, her co-star Charisma Carpenter said of Whedon, \u201cJoss has a history of being casually cruel. He has created hostile and toxic work environments since his early career. I know because I experienced it first-hand. Repeatedly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Carpenter\u2019s comments made headlines, Gellar shared a statement via social media that said in part, \u201cWhile I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don\u2019t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon.\u201d She then said she had no further statements and hasn\u2019t elaborated on her experiences on the show since then.<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter also accused Whedon of targeting her for her faith and eventually firing her after she had a baby.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Casually cruel\u2019 is a perfect way of describing Joss,\u201d writer Jose Molina <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/former-joss-whedon-associates-back-abuse-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed at the time<\/a>. \u201cHe thought being mean was funny. Making female writers cry during a notes session was especially hysterical.
