(Andrew Kelly\/Reuters)<\/figure>\n<h2>\u2018Same Doxxing Rules Apply to \u2018Journalists\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>In a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1603573725978275841\">tweet<\/a> prior, the billionaire businessman had written that the \u201csame doxxing rules apply to \u2018journalists\u2019 as to everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doxxing is the act of\u00a0publishing private or identifying information about an individual, such as their address or phone number, online, typically with malicious intent.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter\u2019s head of trust and safety <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alexeheath\/status\/1603571850709045249\">told<\/a> the Verge in a statement: \u201cWithout commenting on any specific accounts, I can confirm that we will suspend any accounts that violate our privacy policies and put other users at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Aaron Rupar <a href=\"https:\/\/aaronrupar.substack.com\/p\/aaron-rupar-twitter-suspension-atrupar?utm_medium=email\">wrote on Substack<\/a> Thursday night that he has \u201cno idea what rules I purportedly broke\u201d and that he has not had contact with Twitter regarding the suspension of his account.<\/p>\n<p>Rupar also noted that prior to his suspension, he had posted a tweet regarding\u00a0the ElonJet account that was suspended from Twitter which he said was \u201cstill active on Facebook, with a link to the Facebook page.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps that did it, but I still don\u2019t know what policy that could\u2019ve possibly violated,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for The New York Times said in a statement, \u201cTonight\u2019s suspension of the Twitter accounts of a number of prominent journalists, including The New York Times\u2019s Ryan Mac, is questionable and unfortunate. Neither The Times nor Ryan have received any explanation about why this occurred. We hope that all of the journalists\u2019 accounts are reinstated and that Twitter provides a satisfying explanation for this action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cnnpr\/status\/1603579612612665344?s=21\">statement<\/a>: \u201cThe impulsive and unjustified suspensions of a number of reporters, including CNN\u2019s Donie O\u2019Sullivan, is concerning but not surprising. \u201cTwitter\u2019s increasing instability and volatility should be of incredible concern to everyone who uses the platform. Here\u2019s the recording\ud83d\udc47 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/O0woRCbXMh\">pic.twitter.com\/O0woRCbXMh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jan Jekielek (@JanJekielek) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JanJekielek\/status\/1603624389399937026?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 16, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Musk Bans Account Tracking Private Jet<\/h2>\n<p>Twitter on Wednesday suspended a number of accounts that tracked\u00a0the movements of private planes, including those belonging to Musk as well as Amazon founder\u00a0Jeff Bezos, and revealed changes to the platform\u2019s\u00a0doxxing policy.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Sweeney, 19, created a Twitter account called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/teenager-who-tracks-elon-musks-private-jet-launching-business-to-track-other-high-profile-flights_4249337.html\">Elon Musk\u2019s Jet<\/a>\u201d\u00a0in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. The account tracks the businessman\u2019s private jet and tweets out each time it takes off or lands, providing followers with a short summary of flight information, such as the location and duration of each trip.<\/p>\n<p>Musk had\u00a0previously asked\u00a0Sweeney to take down the account, citing safety risks, but the college student remained undeterred and had kept the account active. Musk, who took over Twitter in October, has allowed the account to remain on Twitter\u00a0as part of his \u201ccommitment to free speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sweeney had stated on his personal\u00a0Twitter account that the\u00a0\u201cElon Musk\u2019s Jet\u201d account was not to be used to track down Musk.<\/p>\n<p>However, Musk appeared to have changed his mind this week when he shared a video on Twitter which he claimed showed a \u201ccrazy stalker\u201d blocking a vehicle that was carrying his young son and climbing onto the hood of the car.<\/p>\n<p>He promptly suspended the \u201cElon Musk\u2019s Jet\u201d account and threatened legal action against\u00a0Sweeney.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast night, car carrying lil X in LA was followed by crazy stalker (thinking it was me), who later blocked car from moving &#038; climbed onto hood. Legal action is being taken against Sweeney &#038; organizations who supported harm to my family,\u201d Musk said.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post\u2019s executive editor Sally Buzbee said in a statement that Harwell was \u201cbanished from Twitter without warning, process or explanation, following the publications of his accurate reporting about Musk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur journalist should be reinstated immediately,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Binder said he was \u201cbanned on Thursday night immediately after sharing a screenshot from CNN\u2019s Donie O\u2019Sullivan moments after he was suspended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe screenshot was an official LAPD statement regarding the incident Elon Musk was tweeting out about last night which led him to suspending ElonJet and its creator Jack Sweeney,\u201d Binder said. \u201cI did not share any location data, as per Twitter\u2019s new terms.
