He faces potentially stiff competition for the 2024 GOP nomination, including a possible bid by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>The former president\u2019s first month as a 2024 candidate was buffeted by Attorney General Merrick Garland\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/23\/trump-special-counsels-wife-worked-on-obama-film-and-donated-to-biden\/\">appointment of a special counsel<\/a>, veteran prosecutor Jack Smith, to lead investigations into Trump\u2019s role in challenging the 2020 election results and his handling of classified records since leaving office. For example,\u00a0Facebook\u00a0banned discussion of the Wuhan Institute of Virology\u2019s possible role in the\u00a0COVID-19 pandemic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/26\/facebook-reverses-ban-on-posts-claiming-covid-was-man-made\/\">until mid-2021<\/a>.
