It was subsequently reintroduced in\u00a0April 2021 by Senators Hawley, Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Rubio (R-Fla.), and Cotton (R-Ark.), and it\u00a0unanimously passed\u00a0in the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Hawlyer, a Republican, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1603196674842787842\">confirme<\/a>d on Twitter that lawmakers had voted unanimously to pass the latest bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTikTok is a Trojan Horse for the Chinese Communist Party. It\u2019s a major security risk to the United States, and until it is forced to sever ties with China completely, it has no place on government devices,\u201d Hawley said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawley.senate.gov\/hawley-bill-ban-tiktok-government-devices-passes-senate-unanimously\">statement.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cStates across the U.S. are banning TikTok on government devices. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>Following Wednesday\u2019s vote among Senate lawmakers to\u00a0unanimously pass Hawley\u2019s bill, TikTok spokesperson\u00a0Brooke Oberwetter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-12-15\/us-senate-votes-to-ban-tiktok-app-on-government-owned-phones?leadSource=uverify%20wall\">told<\/a> Bloomberg in a statement: \u201cOnce again, Senator Hawley has moved forward with legislation to ban TikTok on government devices, a proposal which does nothing to advance US national security interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that rather than continuing down that road, he will urge the administration to move forward on an agreement that would actually address his concerns,\u201d Oberwetter added.<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times has contacted TikTok for comment.<\/p>\n<p>A string of states across the U.S. have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/maryland-issues-emergency-directive-banning-tiktok-from-government-devices_4908356.html\">already banned TikTok from being used on government devices<\/a>, including Maryland, South Dakota, and South Carolina, citing\u00a0potential\u00a0cyber-espionage and surveillance of government entities, as well as the inappropriate collection of sensitive personal information.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday,\u00a0Sen. Marco Rubio, (R-Fla.) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/2022\/12\/rubio-gallagher-introduce-bipartisan-legislation-to-ban-tiktok\">introduced legislation<\/a> that would ban TikTok from operating in the\u00a0United States completely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe federal government has yet to take a single meaningful action to protect American users from the threat of TikTok. This isn\u2019t about creative videos \u2014 this is about an app that is collecting data on tens of millions of American children and adults every day. We know it\u2019s used to manipulate feeds and influence elections,\u201d the GOP lawmaker said in a statement announcing the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know it answers to the People\u2019s Republic of China. There is no more time to waste on meaningless negotiations with a CCP-puppet company.
