He explained that the new movie would focus on Superman\u2019s early life, \u201cso the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.\u201d But Gunn assured fans that he and Safran had spoken to Cavill and \u201ctalked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cavill responded in a statement posted to his Instagram account where he said that it was not easy hearing the news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it\u2019s sad news, everyone,\u201d the actor posted to Instagram on Wednesday. \u201cI will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn\u2019t the easiest, but that\u2019s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cavill then wished Gunn and Safran luck on their new vision of the DC movie universe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor those who have been by my side through the years \u2026 we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember \u2026 Superman is still around,\u201d he continued. \u201cEverything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will.
