After <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ripx4nutmeg\/status\/1602744726649987072?s=20&#038;t=TEdY40WqWxzuQ8TV7AS8OQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">receiving<\/a> hundreds of critical comments, the advocacy group reversed course. Many expressed <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SimpForSowell\/status\/1602322391727759361?s=20&#038;t=fq87Hvb8dhr3OBnnlcNfPQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apprehension<\/a> that the search to find a biological basis for transgenderism was misguided and could be exploited (with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MYST_MX9\/status\/1602289313588576259?s=20&#038;t=fq87Hvb8dhr3OBnnlcNfPQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eugenics<\/a> mentioned as a top concern).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Sunday, we posted that we would publish an article on Friday regarding being trans is a \u2018biological condition\u2019 \u2013 the phrasing of the tweet was poor,\u201d said TransLucent. \u201cThe interest has been overwhelming, but many differing concerns have also been raised, and, as a responsible advocacy organization we have listened to all of those concerns. Consequently, we have decided not to publish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TransLucent went on to apologize for any \u201cdisappointment or distress\u201d the group had caused by merely announcing the article, and reaffirmed its commitment to \u201cfight on.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Eirnin, a London-based transsexual activist who was able to preview the article, vocally opposed its publication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tweet has been causing panic among trans people,\u201d Eirnin <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/queertyyr\/status\/1602618731657629696?s=20&#038;t=lOrvphCacBkJCh0K_80lkQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> on Tuesday, accompanied by a screenshot of TransLucent\u2019s initial announcement of the article. \u201cI have been able [to] get early access to the piece \u2013 it is, quite frankly, inconsequential and has very little standing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it should be published a) because it\u2019s unhelpful and b) it\u2019s based on bad, debunked science,\u201d Eirnin continued. \u201cI have given the org involved extensive feedback and strongly encouraged that they do not publish this piece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eirnin said that the article was not peer-reviewed nor written by an expert in the field but was merely a short letter that combined several theories of \u201cbrain sex\u201d based on \u201cdebunked science.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the 1990s, when researchers endeavored to find a biological mechanism for homosexuality, there were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proquest.com\/docview\/218974843\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">concerns<\/a> that it might lead to eugenicist efforts to eradicate same-sex attraction from the gene pool. More recently, some transgender activists have expressed similar fears. As the author of a 2018 Daily Beast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/the-search-for-the-transgender-brain-is-dangerousand-dehumanizing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> put it, \u201cThe hunt for the \u2018transgender brain\u2019 is just as fraught as the quest to find a \u2018gay gene.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf published, the article would have been used to hurt us, but carried no valuable or real weight for the trans community,\u201d said Eirnin. \u201cIt provided no groundbreaking science, would not be considered reputable, and I could not see any value in sharing these ideas in this way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some scientists were\u00a0anticipating the article\u2019s publication, like Samuel Stagg, a U.K.-based Ph.D. student of Neuroimmunology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGenuinely cannot wait for this article!\u201d Stagg <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NeuroSGS\/status\/1602283783796948994?s=20&#038;t=lOrvphCacBkJCh0K_80lkQ\">tweeted<\/a> on Monday. Stagg, whose Master\u2019s degree was in Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Bristol, has developed an interest in \u201cbrain sex\u201d arguments, especially as they pertain to the debate surrounding \u201cgender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe paper was a review citing the same junk science suggesting gender dysphoria is caused by a brain belonging to that of the opposite sex, a claim repeatedly stated by gender activists,\u201d Stagg told The Daily Wire.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, researchers have studied the brains of transgender individuals for insight into their condition. Some have even <a href=\"https:\/\/consultqd.clevelandclinic.org\/the-brain-and-gender-identity-current-evidence-and-implications-for-practice-podcast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">concluded<\/a> that the brain structure of transgender individuals more closely resembles their chosen gender identity rather than their natal sex. Stagg contends that these studies failed to account for important confounding variables, such as sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are two main types of transgender persons (homosexual and heterosexual),\u201d Stagg explained. \u201cThe homosexual sub-group show brains skewed along the male-female dimension, however, this is predominantly due to their co-occurring homosexuality. When we scan the brains of the heterosexual type, we find they are more typical for their natal sex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is because sexual orientation correlates with a brain that is sex-atypical (which makes sense given the animal data),\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NeuroSGS\/status\/1602718014092328961?s=20&#038;t=TEdY40WqWxzuQ8TV7AS8OQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Stagg.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/science\/article\/brains-of-gay-people-resemble-those-of-straight-people-of-opposite-sex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Historically<\/a>, studies of the brain found that the \u201cbrains of gay people resemble those of the opposite sex.\u201d In other words, a gay male may have some features of the brain that resemble a straight female\u2019s brain.
