As science advances, big fertility is expected to grow even bigger.<\/p>\n<p>In true \u201cBrave New World\u201d fashion, biotechnologists have already begun developing <a href=\"https:\/\/studyfinds.org\/ectolife-artificial-womb-facility-lab-grown-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">facilities filled with artificial wombs<\/a> that intentionally distance a baby from his biological mother in exchange for manufactured nourishment until birth. That, combined with global scientists\u2019 attempts to mainstream a type of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/12\/10\/how-one-scientist-lost-big-trying-to-genetically-enhance-unborn-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cgene editing\u201d<\/a> that borders gene enhancement, is a recipe for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/25\/as-reproductive-technology-advances-remember-just-because-we-can-doesnt-mean-we-should\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ethical, moral, and scientific disaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ethical concerns about fertility practices such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), egg and sperm supply, and surrogacy are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spreaker.com\/user\/10614200\/inside-the-rapidly-changing-world-of-rep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not new<\/a>. Yet, ever since the popularization of these practices in the U.S., calls for a reckoning on the moral implications of creating lives only to doom them to a freezer or dissection have gone largely unheard. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[LISTEN: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spreaker.com\/user\/10614200\/inside-the-rapidly-changing-world-of-rep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inside The Rapidly Changing World Of Reproductive Technology<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When the Supreme Court overturned <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/06\/25\/dodds-roe-ivf-infertility-embryos-egg-donation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate media<\/a> and activists argued states would use <em>Dobbs<\/em> as an excuse to crack down on the fertility industry.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, legislation designed to hold the baby manufacturing market accountable remains largely nonexistent or stagnant. Only three U.S. states \u2014 Louisiana Nebraska, and Michigan \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circlesurrogacy.com\/surrogacy\/surrogacy-by-state-surrogacy-laws#:~:text=There%20are%203%20US%20states,no%20matter%20where%20you%20live.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ban commercial surrogacy<\/a>. As of now, all 50 states allow the serial manufacturing of virtually unlimited embryos via IVF.<\/p>\n<p>With the exception of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bice.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/bice-sherrill-introduce-bill-response-our-father-documentary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Protecting Families from Fertility Fraud Act<\/a>, which aimed to criminalize the deliberate misrepresentation of DNA used to create children in labs, the 117th Congress barely encountered, much less voted on, legislation that would rein in the unethical practices used in the reproductive industry. <\/p>\n<p>Bill sponsor Rep. Stephanie Bice, an Oklahoma Republican, told The Federalist she plans to reintroduce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/8600\/text?r=22&#038;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">that legislation<\/a> for consideration in the newly flipped House. But it\u2019s a only small step towards the type of legislative attention reproductive technology deserves, especially because a coalition of Democrats, backed by various LGBT activist groups, is slated to reintroduce a bill designed to redefine infertility to include homosexual couples. Rep. Adam Schiff\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/schiff.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/schiff-chu-introduce-bill-to-ensure-lgbtq-individuals-equal-access-to-reproductive-treatments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Equal Access to Reproductive Care Act<\/a> doesn\u2019t just protect the serial embryo manufacturing practices of IVF, it also gives legitimacy to commercial surrogacy by subsidizing it via a tax break. <\/p>\n<p>In many cases, these practices encourage the fundamental redefinition of not just the family, but also what it means to be human. The fact that such <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/26\/big-fertility-harms-babies-and-women-so-why-are-we-celebrating-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">problematic practices harm women and babies<\/a> should deepen concerns about the expansion of the \u201creproduction for all\u201d fertility industry. Instead, business is booming. <\/p>\n<p>The desire to build a family is admirable, but how far are we willing to let people go to create life outside of natural bounds?
