The U.S. Air Force has previously awarded nearly $1 bn for hypersonic missile development (AFP)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Pentagon has placed an increased emphasis on the testing and development of hypersonic weapons in the light of advances elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Russia has deployed its hypersonic Kinzhal missiles in Ukraine, marking perhaps the first time such weapons have been used in war.
