However, Congress is on track to pass a week-long continuing resolution to give Congress more time to draft an omnibus bill.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reportedly\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/13\/politics\/government-funding-shutdown-latest\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday that negotiations are \u201cvery close\u201d to reaching a deal on a spending bill that would be \u201cbroadly appealing.\u201d However, McConnell also urged negotiators to finish no later than December 22, because he intends \u201cto be on the road going home\u201d on December 23.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">Still, only some people in Congress are advocating for Congress to pass a year-long spending bill that would set the budget until the end of the current fiscal year on September 30, 2023.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Some House Republicans argue Congress should pass a short-term continuing resolution that would extend government funding until the start of the next Congress in January, where the GOP will have a majority in the House.<\/p>\n<p>House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reportedly told House Republicans he is a \u201chell no\u201d on a full-year government spending package, CNN\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/13\/politics\/government-funding-shutdown-latest\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/about.bgov.com\/news\/what-to-know-in-washington-senates-earmarked-billions-at-stake\/?utm_medium=bgov&#038;utm_source=twitter&#038;utm_campaign=B307A6D6-7AEF-11ED-93F3-CFE44F017A06\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that between the House and Senate, the two chambers had published 7,509 earmarks in their proposed spending bills, bringing the total spending on earmarks to $16,012,972,565.<\/p>\n<p>The full-year omnibus spending bill is expected to be $1.7 trillion.
