The public, however, has only recently \u2014 and haphazardly \u2014 learned of the lengths federal law enforcement officials and government employees have gone to safeguard the Biden family secrets. Here are eight times our government squelched scandals.<\/p>\n<p> 1. Censoring the Hunter Biden Laptop Story <\/p>\n<p>The most recent and most well-known example of the feds protecting the Biden family stems from efforts by intelligence agencies to squelch news coverage of the New York Post\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reporting<\/a> that Hunter Biden \u201cintroduced his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to a top executive at a Ukrainian energy firm less than a year before the elder Biden pressured government officials in Ukraine into firing a prosecutor who was investigating the company.\u201d The Post discovered that detail, and many more implicating Joe Biden in a pay-to-play scandal, in a cache of emails and text messages recovered from a laptop Hunter had abandoned at a Delaware computer repair store.<\/p>\n<p>Before the New York Post broke the story on Oct. 14, 2022, about Joe Biden\u2019s knowledge of and potential involvement in his son\u2019s business dealings, the FBI warned Facebook that it \u201cshould be on high alert.\u201d \u201c[W]e thought there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election,\u201d the FBI said, adding that \u201cwe have it on notice that basically there\u2019s about to be some kind of dump similar to that so just be vigilant.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Based on that warning, Facebook\u2019s founder Mark Zuckerberg explained that \u201cwhen the New York Post broke the Hunter Biden laptop story on Oct. 14, 2020, Facebook treated the story as potentially misinformation, important misinformation for five to seven days while the tech giant\u2019s team could determine whether it was false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Federal law enforcement agencies likewise <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/13\/twitter-files-overshadow-the-bigger-scandal-fbi-lied-to-tech-giants-to-interfere-in-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned<\/a> Twitter in the lead-up to the 2020 general election \u201cthat they expected \u2018hack-and-leak operations\u2019 by state actors might occur in the period shortly before the 2020 presidential election, likely in October.\u201d Twitter\u2019s then-head of trust and safety, Yoel Roth, further acknowledged that in meetings with federal law enforcement agencies, he learned \u201cthat there were rumors that a hack-and-leak operation would involve Hunter Biden.\u201d According to a letter Twitter\u2019s lawyer sent to the Federal Election Commission, the tech giant explained it was \u201cthe prior warnings of a hack-and-leak operation and doubts about the provenance of the materials republished in the N.Y. Post articles,\u201d that led its Site Integrity Team to preliminarily determine \u201cthe materials could have been obtained through hacking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the Hunter Biden laptop was not part of a \u201chack-and-leak operation,\u201d and it wasn\u2019t \u201cRussian propaganda\u201d or \u201cimportant misinformation\u201d \u2014 and the FBI <em>knew <\/em>that fact because it had seized the laptop from the computer repair store nearly a year earlier, in December of 2019. But the FBI nonetheless deceived the tech giants to induce them to censor the pay-to-play scandal that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/08\/26\/2020-election-outcome-would-differ-with-hunter-biden-laptop-coverage-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">likely<\/a> would have cost Joe Biden the election.<\/p>\n<p> 2.
