Ron DeSantis announced on Tuesday that he is petitioning the Florida Supreme Court to empanel a grand jury to \u201cinvestigate any and all wrongdoing\u201d with respect to the Covid jabs within his state.<\/p>\n<p>While speaking at a roundtable event centered on the shots\u2019 side effects along with Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo and numerous medical professionals, DeSantis emphasized the need to uncover \u201cmore information\u201d about how the jabs were marketed to the public and hold accountable individuals who willingly violated state law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Florida, it is against the law to mislead and to misrepresent, particularly when you\u2019re talking about the efficacy of a drug,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201c[The grand jury investigation] will come with legal processes that will [allow us to] to get more information and to bring legal accountability for those who committed misconduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Florida governor expressed confidence that the state\u2019s highest court will approve his request and predicted the grand jury will be convened in the Tampa Bay area.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Gov. Included on the committee are co-author of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/gbdeclaration.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Great Barrington Declaration<\/a>\u201d and Stanford professor Jay Bhattacharya, California epidemiologist Tracy H\u00f8eg, and Louisiana emergency room doctor Joseph Fraiman, among others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that there\u2019s been a lot of faith destroyed in public health and I think that it\u2019s important we have folks who people actually can rely on,\u201d DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/florida-politics\/2022\/12\/13\/desantis-requests-grand-jury-probe-covid-19-vaccines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike other states, Florida has been at the forefront of bringing transparency to potential side effects and harms caused by the mRNA injections. In October, Ladapo\u2019s office updated its guidance on the Covid shots to include recommendations against 18\u201339-year-old males receiving the jab due to an <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/FLDOH\/bulletins\/3312697\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increased risk<\/a> of cardio-related death.<\/p>\n<p>The department issued <a href=\"http:\/\/ww11.doh.state.fl.us\/comm\/_partners\/covid19_report_archive\/press-release-assets\/g2-jtr_QWBT4hJpqr_20220308-1923.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">similar guidance<\/a> back in March, which advised against giving the jabs to children under 18 due to the \u201c[l]imited risk of severe illness\u201d posed by the virus, the \u201c[h]igh prevalence of existing immunity,\u201d and the risk of myocarditis, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Fleetwood is a Staff Writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
