The disgraced entrepreneur was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-democrat-megadonor-sam-bankman-fried-arrested-in-bahamas-faces-criminal-charges-in-u-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrested<\/a> on Monday by authorities in the island nation, where his companies were headquartered, under the expectation that American officials would request his extradition.<\/p>\n<p>Ray, who previously managed the collapse of fraudulent energy company Enron, told lawmakers in his <a href=\"https:\/\/financialservices.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/hhrg-117-ba00-wstate-rayj-20221213.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opening statement<\/a> that he is working to \u201cmitigate, to the greatest extent possible, the harm suffered\u201d by customers and investors. He repeated earlier assertions that FTX was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/lawyer-overseeing-ftx-fallout-never-in-my-career-have-i-seen-such-a-complete-failure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worst failure<\/a> of corporate controls he has witnessed in his entire career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough our investigation is ongoing and detailed findings will have to await its conclusion, the FTX Group\u2019s collapse appears to stem from the absolute concentration of control in the hands of a very small group of grossly inexperienced and unsophisticated individuals who failed to implement virtually any of the systems or controls that are necessary for a company that is entrusted with other people\u2019s money or assets,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sam-bankman-fried-agrees-to-testify-before-congress-i-had-thought-of-myself-as-a-model-ceo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously scheduled<\/a> to testify before lawmakers. The disgraced entrepreneur now faces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/officials-charge-sam-bankman-fried-of-using-customer-funds-for-lavish-real-estate-and-large-political-donations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fraud and money laundering<\/a> charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as other federal agencies. A copy of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/stevenehrlich\/2022\/12\/13\/exclusive-transcript-the-full-testimony-sbf-planned-to-give-to-congress\/?sh=3c5d7f263c47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">testimony<\/a> obtained by Forbes showed that the entrepreneur would have said \u201cI f***** up\u201d at the outset of his remarks. He has insisted during several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sam-bankman-fried-denies-wrongdoing-in-ftx-implosion-during-live-streamed-new-york-times-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media interviews<\/a> that his company\u2019s failure was due to his own incompetence rather than criminal actions.<\/p>\n<p>Ray added that his team is attempting to implement corporate controls, such as accounting, cybersecurity, human resources, and risk management operations, while working \u201caround the clock\u201d to locate FTX assets, which may prove difficult due to the lack of record-keeping.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney also noted that FTX executives embarked upon a \u201cspending binge\u201d over the past year, burning through as much as $5 billion on \u201ca myriad of businesses and investments, many of which may be worth only a fraction of what was paid for them.\u201d Bankman-Fried <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sam-bankman-fried-was-a-fan-of-tay-tay-badly-wanted-her-to-sign-100-million-marketing-deal-with-ftx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paid millions<\/a> soliciting celebrities such as quarterback Tom Brady and investor Kevin O\u2019Leary as brand ambassadors.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing marked the second in Congress regarding the collapse of FTX and possible cryptocurrency regulations. Members of the Senate Agriculture Committee recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-commodities-regulator-tells-senators-he-met-with-sam-bankman-fried-10-times\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">held a hearing<\/a> with Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Rostin Behnam on increasing federal oversight of the nascent industry.<\/p>\n<p>House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Patrick McHenry (R-NC) asserted on Tuesday during his opening statement that regulation is necessary for the continuation of a legitimate cryptocurrency sector. \u201cIt appears to be the same old-school fraud, just using new technology,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to separate out the bad actions of an individual from the good created by an industry and an innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, the parents of Bankman-Fried, have reportedly been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sam-bankman-frieds-well-connected-democrat-parents-hiding-out-in-bahamas-with-him\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">staying with their son<\/a> in the Bahamas. After Rep.
