Jon Tester, the only Democrat to hold statewide office in Montana, will not commit to a re-election bid just yet. The Montana senator will be up for re-election to a fourth term in 2024, and Republicans have their eyes on picking up this seat as they fight to regain a Senate majority next cycle. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6317039602112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Sunday appearance<\/a> on NBC\u2019s &#8220;Meet the Press,&#8221; the Montana Democrat was pressed on his re-election ambitions, but refused to say whether he would seek re-election in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the senator\u2019s office told Fox News that Tester would make a final determination after the New Year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tester is considered one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2024-senate-battle-begun-electoral-map-doesnt-favor-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most vulnerable Democratic incumbents<\/a> next election cycle, representing a state that voted for former President Trump by +16 points in 2020 and saw a string of GOP victories in the 2022 midterm elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2024-senate-battle-begun-electoral-map-doesnt-favor-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>THE 2024 SENATE BATTLE HAS BEGUN AND THE ELECTORAL MAP DOES NOT FAVOR DEMOCRATS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the last two election\u00a0cycles are any indication, running as a Democrat in 2024 statewide in Montana is a bleak\u00a0endeavor,&#8221; Montana native and former Republican Senate and House leadership adviser AshLee Strong told Fox.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Republicans now hold all constitutional\u00a0offices, have\u00a0a supermajority in the state legislature, and hold three of the\u00a0four federal offices. Retiring would allow Sen. Tester to leave on his own terms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Tester&#8217;s seat, Democrats will face strong headwinds elsewhere in the country as they try to maintain a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/democrats-maintain-control-united-states-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>razor-thin Senate majority<\/u><\/a> in the 2024 elections. The party will be defending 23 of the 34 Senate seats up for grabs next cycle. Of the 23 Democratic incumbents up for re-election, seven represent states won by former President Trump in either 2016 or 2020.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-ct inline\">\n<div class=\"m\"><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 767px) and (max-width: 1023px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1024px) and (max-width: 1279px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1280px)\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/640\/320\/Untitled-design-23.jpg?ve=1&#038;tl=1\" alt=\"Sen. Tester is trying to decide whether to retire or lose,&#8221; in response to the senator&#8217;s NBC appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Though no clear Republican front-runner has challenged Tester just yet, Montana Rep. Matt Rosendale and Congressman-elect Ryan Zinke have both been considered as potential GOP nominees. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/montana-republican-matt-rosendale-wins-re-election-us-house-race\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rosendale<\/a>, who has represented Montana\u2019s 2nd Congressional District since 2021, ran for U.S. Senate against Tester in 2018, losing by a narrow margin.
