The department did not clarify whether Brinton had resigned or been fired. The termination of Brinton\u2019s employment had not been previously reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Signal reached out for comment after Dr. Joseph Nicolosi Jr. a licensed therapist and founder of the Reintegrative Therapy Association, drew attention to the apparent contradictions in Brinton\u2019s claims to have undergone \u201cconversion therapy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrinton claims he was in torture therapy as a young child for years and can\u2019t remember the therapist\u2019s name,\u201d Nicolosi said in a Monday statement. \u201cHe later claimed the therapy took place in his twenties. But even as he was attacking therapies that don\u2019t exist, he was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/poly.rpi.edu\/2017\/04\/12\/nuclear_policy_expert_discusses_sex_kinks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">engaging in sadomachism<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170708031332\/https:\/\/www.metroweekly.com\/2016\/01\/puppy-love-mid-atlantic-leather-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">simulated bestiality<\/a>\u00a0with young men and women. Of course, no one cared about his credibility until he got caught stealing luggage.\u201d (Brinton claimed in a news release that he underwent \u201cconversion therapy\u201d at age 10, but he wrote in The New York Times that he suffered it at age 12, and when he was in his twenties, he told donors at a National Center for Lesbian Rights event that he suffered it \u201ca couple years ago.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSam Brinton\u2019s story was always too good to be true,\u201d Nicolosi told The Daily Signal. \u201cBut politicians and activists cared more about how he advanced their narrative than about ensuring that people understand that sexual fluidity goes more than just one way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brinton testified in support of therapy bans, claiming that he suffered from \u201cconversion therapy.\u201d However, even LGBT activist Wayne Beson\u2014who vehemently opposes \u201cconversion therapy\u201d\u2014noted in LGBTQ Nation that Brinton\u2019s story was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2022\/12\/sam-brintons-story-always-good-true\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">too good to be true<\/a>\u201d and faulted LGBT activist groups and the press for failing to verify it before championing his cause.<\/p>\n<p>Beson asked Brinton for the identity of his \u201cconversion therapist\u201d and for the facility in which the \u201ctherapy\u201d occurred. Yet Brinton demurred.<\/p>\n<p>The DOE declined to comment on Brinton\u2019s history, stating that he \u201cis no longer a DOE employee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans had previously called on Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11521789\/Republicans-renew-calls-Bidens-nonbinary-energy-official-Sam-Brinton-fired.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fire Brinton<\/a>, citing the grand larceny charges he faces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an appointed official, Sam Brinton represents both your Department and the United States,\u201d Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga. and other House Republicans wrote in a Dec. 6 letter. \u201cIt is simply not possible for an individual to represent American values and simultaneously violate the felony laws of the land. Brinton\u2019s actions, along with your Department\u2019s lack of transparency when dealing with this matter, reflect poorly on the Department of Energy, and they raise concern as to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/11\/02\/fact-checking-5-biden-warnings-about-dangers-to-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden Administration\u2019s<\/a> priorities when appointing high-ranking officials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative that we do not allow a person charged with a felony to influence America\u2019s policies,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p><em>Have an opinion about this article?
