So did the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/05\/if-a-legitimate-free-press-existed-the-twitter-files-wouldnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">media<\/a> \u2014 after Trump\u2019s loss in the 2020 presidential election, propaganda press outlets began <a href=\"https:\/\/morningconsult.com\/2020\/11\/19\/trumps-social-media-posts-could-face-different-moderation-rules-once-he-leaves-office-social-media-users-arent-sure-they-approve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dredging up polls<\/a> and other content designed to cast doubt on Trump\u2019s presence on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>When media figures weren\u2019t personally calling for the suppression of Trump online, outlets such as Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/11\/04\/democrats-twitter-trump-misinformation-434070\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amplified<\/a> Democrats who wanted nothing more than to see their top enemy banned from social media for life.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most egregious and effective examples of this was when The Washington Post chose to publish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/context\/letter-to-jack-dorsey-from-twitter-employees-asking-to-permanently-suspend-donald-trump-s-account\/d9b84fa1-c7cb-4c5b-a90a-fdf167ff0c7a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a letter<\/a> from hundreds of Twitter employees early in the afternoon on Jan. 8. In the letter, Twitter staff demanded then-CEO Jack Dorsey, legal and policy executive Vijaya Gadde, and other executives \u201cpermanently suspend\u201d Trump. They also called on the Big Tech company to review the role it played as \u201cTrump\u2019s megaphone\u201d and helping \u201cfuel the deadly events of January 6th.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate stronger measures, like the interstitials recently used on his account and his Jan. 6 timeout. We do not believe these actions are sufficient,\u201d the \u201cTweeps\u201d wrote.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the letter\u2019s amplification in the digital pages of WaPo, however, Twitter staff <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bariweiss\/status\/1602366973089697792?s=20&amp;t=hrawDQes03H6L4fAUBxDpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doubted<\/a> that Trump\u2019s tweets on Jan. 8 would justify his permanent removal from the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Even after <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bariweiss\/status\/1602368448977195008?s=20&amp;t=hrawDQes03H6L4fAUBxDpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter\u2019s safety team<\/a> concluded that Trump\u2019s tweets did not violate any policies, Twitter banned the sitting president by the evening of Jan. 8.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of heeding the assessment that Trump\u2019s tweets did not violate Twitter\u2019s policies, the Big Tech company took a page out of its <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/03\/twitter-files-confirm-big-tech-leftists-suppressed-hunter-biden-laptop-story-ahead-of-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hunter Biden laptop censorship playbook<\/a> and used a vague excuse to nuke the president\u2019s personal page.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Twitter claimed that giving Trump access to the online public square posed a \u201crisk of further incitement of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them \u2014 specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter \u2014 we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,\u201d Twitter\u2019s official statement <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TwitterSafety\/status\/1347684877634838528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1347684878574366721%7Ctwgr%5Ee71a4817942b9a4f166d17b27d2244e7ecbcb6a5%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fthefederalist.com%2F2021%2F01%2F08%2Ftwitter-just-nuked-the-account-of-the-worlds-biggest-critic-of-big-tech-and-china%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">read<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Censors at Twitter, who pined for Trump\u2019s suspension for months, celebrated the suspension in various internal chat rooms.
