Rowling<\/a> is one of the few mainstream celebrities willing to stand up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/lgbtq\">trans activists<\/a> publicly, and during a recent interview she explained her reasons for doing so.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 57-year-old \u201cHarry Potter\u201d writer said it all came down to knowing she had enough funds to withstand the inevitable backlash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to have to be, me, isn\u2019t it? Because I will always be able to feed my kids, even if everyone boycotts my books for the rest of my life,\u201d Rowling told British journalist Suzanne Moore during a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/suzannemoore.substack.com\/p\/an-exclusive-interview-with-jk-rowling\">interview<\/a>. \u201cThat is a phenomenally privileged position to be in. I consider myself one of the most fortunate people on Earth.\u201d\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us know, who\u2019ve been in the eye of the storm, that attempts are still made to stop you,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd what\u2019s so interesting is the main thrust of that attempt to silence is to put you into a state of fear.\u201d\u202f<\/p>\n<p>Rowling said that she\u2019s not afraid of being canceled in large part because she can afford to be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s important that women like us stand up \u2013 people who can afford to take the hit. And yeah, that comes at a cost \u2026 The only time I\u2019ve ever made reference to being canceled, my book sales went up,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n<p>At another point in the interview, Rowling reiterated that she has no personal vendetta against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/transgender\">trans community<\/a>, a point she made in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no irrational fear of or hatred towards trans people in the slightest \u2013 as, God knows, I\u2019ve said so many times,\u201d the British author reiterated. \u201cBut if you\u2019re going to say it\u2019s \u2018hate\u2019 not to believe in a gendered soul, then we cannot have a discussion. We can\u2019t. There\u2019s nowhere to go. The tactic has been no debate, but it is changing.\u201d\u202f<\/p>\n<p>Rowling goes on to say she considers herself a feminist but that leftists are \u201cso convinced of their moral superiority\u201d that they attempt to silence any objectors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s where my brand of feminism splits sharply from third-wave feminism,\u201d she says. \u201cI see so much conflation of femininity with femaleness. We were fighting to stop that conflation, and there they are, in my view, embracing that.\u202f\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contradictions drive me crazy: we\u2019re simultaneously told gender is innate and inborn, and that it\u2019s a choice, a performance.
