That&#8217;s why &#8220;pancreatic cancer is <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org\/discussion\/mayo-clinic-minute-pancreatic-cancer-is-the-most-lethal\/\" target=\"_blank\">the most lethal cancer<\/a> in the human body, with overall five-year survival rates at just about seven percent despite all the advances over the past decades,&#8221; according to the Mayo Clinic News Network. &#8220;There are no telltale signs for pancreatic cancer, and symptoms like weight loss, abdominal pain, jaundice, and appetite loss are nonspecific.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why knowing which symptoms to watch for, no matter how unrelated they may seem, is crucial\u2014as is being aware of any factors that may put you at a higher risk for getting developing pancreatic cancer. The pancreas has an exocrine gland and an endocrine gland, which perform <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/body\/21743-pancreas\" target=\"_blank\">digestive and hormonal<\/a> functions. The exocrine function produces enzymes that help with digestion, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The endocrine function is to send out hormones that control the amount of sugar in your bloodstream.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pancreatic cancer <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/pancreatic-cancer\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20355421\" target=\"_blank\">typically starts<\/a> in the ducts of the pancreas,&#8221; <strong>Chee-Chee Stucky<\/strong>, MD, tells the Mayo Clinic. &#8220;Small changes in the cellular DNA result in uncontrolled multiplication and accumulation of cells in clusters called tumors. The American Cancer Society advises that family history and genetics may indicate a higher risk <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/pancreatic-cancer\/causes-risks-prevention\/risk-factors.html\" target=\"_blank\">for the disease<\/a>, as well as age, gender, and race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The risk of developing pancreatic cancer goes up <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/positive-beliefs-aging-longevity-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">as people age<\/a>,&#8221; the site says, noting that almost all pancreatic cancer patients are over 45, and approximately two-thirds are at least 65.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Men are slightly more likely to develop pancreatic cancer than women,&#8221; the American Cancer Society reports. &#8220;African Americans are slightly more likely to develop pancreatic cancer than whites.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Research has shown that there may be a link between <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/blood-type-pancreatic-cancer-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">blood type<\/a> and the risk of certain diseases, including pancreatic cancer. the American Cancer Society explains. &#8220;People usually have no symptoms until the cancer has become very large or has already spread to other organs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/pancreatic-cancer-warning-signs\/\" target=\"_blank\">warning signs do arise<\/a>, the symptoms depend on where the cancer is in the pancreas. &#8220;You can have a relatively small tumor in the very end of the pancreas, near the opening to the duodenum, that <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/podcasts\/butts-and-guts\/pancreatic-cancer-what-you-need-to-know-with-dr-matthew-walsh\" target=\"_blank\">can cause jaundice<\/a>,&#8221; <strong>Matthew Walsh<\/strong>, MD, told a Cleveland Clinic podcast.<\/p>\n<p>As a tumor grows from the pancreas and invades certain nerves and organs, this can cause mid-back pain. &#8220;Some people also report that <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/pancreaticcanceraction.org\/about-pancreatic-cancer\/symptoms\/mid-back-pain-or-discomfort\/\" target=\"_blank\">they feel pain<\/a> in their shoulder or under their shoulder blade,&#8221; reports The Good Body. &#8220;Eight in ten Americans will experience back pain in their lifetime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Osteoporosis and muscle strain are just two of the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/back-pain-omicron-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">potential reasons<\/a> for back pain, but the cause can be much more serious. Pain in varying areas of the back can signal different types of cancers that include lung cancer, blood and tissue cancer, and pancreatic cancer, says Healthline, which also warns to look <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/cancer\/lower-back-pain-cancer\" target=\"_blank\">for other symptoms<\/a> like <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/cancer-symptoms-in-the-bathroom-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">changes in the bathroom<\/a>, sudden weight loss, and weakness, tingling, or numbness in your arms and legs.<\/p>\n<p>Farrell also cautions that other symptoms associated with pancreatic cancer include &#8220;weight loss, <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/bestlifeonline.com\/urine-color-news\/\" target=\"_blank\">dark urine<\/a>, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, depression, pancreatitis, [and] new onset diabetes.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The symptoms of pancreatic cancer may be subtle, varied, or\u2014in the early stages of the disease\u2014non-existent.
