He said it is \u201cegregious what we\u2019re finding\u201d and focused on the dozens of former intelligence officials whom critics have <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/19\/its-been-two-years-since-51-intelligence-agents-interfered-with-an-election-they-still-wont-apologize\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused of election interference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose 51 intel agents that signed a letter that said the Hunter Biden information was all wrong \u2014 was Russia collusion \u2014 many of them have a security clearance,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/kevin-mccarthy-pledges-subpoenas-51-intel-agents-wake-hunter-biden-revelations-twitter-files\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McCarthy said<\/a>.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The signees, which include former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=00000175-4393-d7aa-af77-579f9b330000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned in the letter<\/a> that the October 2020 arrival of reporting about the laptop \u201chas all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.\u201d Going further than what the letter said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/19\/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico used a headline<\/a> that said the former intelligence officials were claiming the story was \u201cRussian disinfo.\u201d Then-candidate Joe Biden, the father of Hunter, used the letter to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house-gop-demand-records-from-ex-intel-officials-about-hunter-biden-laptop-letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cast doubt on the laptop story<\/a> during one of his debates with then-President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy said the intelligence veterans would be subpoenaed and brought before a committee to address the letter about the laptop, many of the contents of which have since been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/03\/30\/hunter-biden-laptop-data-examined\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">analyzed and shown to be authentic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy did they sign it?\u201d McCarthy asked. \u201cWhy did they lie to the American public? A Clapper, a Brennan? Why did you use the reputation that America was able to give to you \u2014 more information \u2014 but use it for a political purpose and lie to the American public?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy also said Facebook and Google should be scrutinized, claiming they \u201cbecame an arm of the Democratic Party and the arm of government,\u201d and asserted these tech companies should not have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/supreme-court-agrees-to-hear-case-challenging-big-techs-section-230-legal-protections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Section 230 legal protections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/incoming-gop-chairman-sends-warning-shot-to-all-twitter-employees-tied-to-hunter-biden-laptop-controversy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hunter Biden probe<\/a> is one of many that Republicans are gearing up to conduct after they won a slim majority in the House in the 2022 midterm cycle. In a House floor vote set for next month, McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/andy-biggs-to-challenge-kevin-mccarthy-for-speaker-position\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">needs the support of a simple majority<\/a> of members to become speaker.
