The use of Iranian drones has slowed down over the past month. But now it seems to be picking up again.\n<\/p>\n<p>The British Military Intelligence assesses that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-ukraine-wagner-group-attack-battle-bakhmut-study-war-latest-1765549\">Russian forces<\/a> have received a resupply of Shahed-131 and Shahed-136 loitering munitions from Iran. In the past couple of days, the Ukrainian General Staff reported that it shot down 17 Russian drones, including 14 Shahed-136 loitering munitions.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainians are also reporting that Iranian-made drones are targeting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/the-russia-ukraine-war-and-its-ramifications-for-russia\/\">Ukrainian forces<\/a> in the south.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last previously reported shooting down of Iranian Shahed-136s in Ukraine was on 17 November 2022.\n<\/p>\n<p>If verified, it is likely that Russia has recommenced attacks with newly delivered OWA [One-way Attack] UAV systems,\u201d the British Military Intelligence\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DefenceHQ\/status\/1601111221993963520\">assessed<\/a>\u00a0in its latest estimate of the war.<\/p>\n<p>Unmanned aerial systems are a cheap way to find, track, and attack an adversary. Both sides in the war in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ex-russian-operative-says-russian-military-lacks-clear-strategy-2022-12\">Ukraine<\/a> are using them profusely. However, despite some reports to the contrary, drones haven\u2019t been as effective as previously thought. The TB2 Bayraktar is a prime example of this.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian military had some success with the Turkish-made drone at the start of the war, but Russian air defenses quickly shot down the Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems.\n<\/p>\n<p>And yet, the Ukrainians had recorded a lot of \u201ckill footage\u201d featuring the TB2 Bayraktar that they cleverly released in stages to magnify the drone\u2019s reputation.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Russian Casualties: Update<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Overall, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mil.gov.ua\/en\/news\/2022\/12\/09\/the-total-combat-losses-of-the-enemy-from-24-02-to-09-12\/\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0that as of Friday,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/can-russia-terror-bomb-its-way-to-victory-in-ukraine\/\">Ukrainian forces<\/a>\u00a0have killed approximately 93,390 Russian troops (and wounded approximately twice to thrice that number), destroyed 281 fighter, attack,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/stealth-bomber-faceoff-americas-b-21-raider-vs-russias-pak-da\/\">bomber<\/a>, and transport jets, 264\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/russia-losing-attack-helicopters-because-it-lacks-air-superiority-2022-11\">attack and transport helicopters<\/a>, 2,937 tanks, 1,926 artillery pieces, 5,912 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, 395 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), 16 boats and cutters, 4,531 vehicles and fuel tanks, 211 anti-aircraft batteries, 1,603 tactical unmanned aerial systems, 164 special equipment platforms, such as bridging vehicles, and four mobile Iskander ballistic missile systems, and 592\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandboxx.us\/blog\/why-calling-russias-kinzhal-a-hypersonic-missile-is-a-stretch\/\">cruise missiles<\/a>\u00a0shot down by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/russia-strikes-maternity-ward-in-southern-ukraine-11669196039\">Ukrainian air defenses<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>With this rate of casualties, the Russian military is up for losing 100,000 men by the end of the year.\n<\/p>\n<p>Although in the past 24 hours, the casualty figures have eased up, the Russian forces have been losing an average of 500 killed every day for the past three weeks.\n<\/p>\n<p>In November alone, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/putin-acknowledges-russias-war-ukraine-could-be-long-one-2022-12-07\/\">Russian forces<\/a> lost more than 15,000 men killed.\n<\/p>\n<p>Despite these horrific losses, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/world\/2022\/12\/08\/russia-putin-sot-intercepted-phone-call-russian-soldier-ukraine-ebof-vpx.cnn\">Russian military<\/a> didn\u2019t achieve anything significant.\n<\/p>\n<p>To be sure, it managed to capture a few settlements to the north and south of Bakhmut in the Donbas.
