Mayra Flores (R-Texas) said, referring to President Joe Biden\u2019s recent remarks.<\/p>\n<p>When asked on Dec. 6 why he wasn\u2019t going to the border while visiting a border state, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-reveals-why-he-isnt-visiting-border-while-in-arizona_4906473.html\">told<\/a> reporters at the White House it was \u201cbecause there are more important things going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep.\u00a0Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) said, \u201cWhile in Washington, there\u2019s a lot that divides us in policy and often drives us in a lot of different directions, but there are a lot of things that should unite us.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4911022\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/12\/08\/Tony-Gonzales-R-Texas-1200x900.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy wp-image-4911022 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/12\/08\/Tony-Gonzales-R-Texas-1200x900.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"     style=\"display:none\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4911022 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/12\/08\/Tony-Gonzales-R-Texas-1200x900.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) spoke at the bipartisan meeting about border patrol suicide rates at the House Triangle in Washington on Dec. 7, 2022. (Madalina Vasiliu\/The Epoch Times)<\/figure>\n<p>During the 2022 fiscal year, $23 million has been allocated to the mental health of CBP\u00a0agents, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) said, adding that the same budget for the 2023 fiscal year will be the same.<\/p>\n<p>The Taking Action to Prevent Suicide (TAPS) Act would allow CBP agents to freely speak with health care professionals without fear of losing their jobs as well as increase the number of local behavioral health specialists with the expertise to provide psychological assistance to CBP officers.<\/p>\n<p>If there are no health care experts in the agency,\u00a0Cuellar said, the government should work with local organizations to provide what the CBP agents need for their mental health.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4910572\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/12\/07\/Rep.-Henry-Cuellar-D-Texas-1200x763.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy wp-image-4910572 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/12\/07\/Rep.-Henry-Cuellar-D-Texas-1200x763.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"407\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4910572 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/12\/07\/Rep.-Henry-Cuellar-D-Texas-1200x763.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"407\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Rep. (Madalina Vasiliu\/The Epoch Times)<\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cUntil we take out the fear of law enforcement coming forward and talking about their mental health issues, they\u2019re never going to do it,\u201d said Brandon Judd, president of the Border Patrol Union.<\/p>\n<p>There needs to be more than a friendly social worker, said Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.). CBP agents should have health care personnel trained to guide them through traumatic experiences when necessary, she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe all know that our immigration system is fully broken. It is working for no one. Therefore, the folks who are manning the southern border are bearing the brunt of our failed policies,\u201d\u00a0Slotkin said.<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/almost-87000-unknown-illegal-aliens-get-past-border-patrol-in-october-provisional-data_4847404.html\">obtained<\/a> data indicating that CBP captured 209,664 illegal aliens along the southern border in October.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Darren Soto (D-Fla.), said that CBP\u2019s southern agents need more advanced technology, such as sensor towers and refugee processing facilities.
