I\u00a0don\u2019t get them presents, which I think at their ages they don\u2019t love, but I say, \u2018I think we\u2019ll remember the place and the photos and the experience and that\u2019s what I want to give you,&#8217;\u201d the 47-year-old actress explained.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201c50 First Dates\u201d alum went on to say that it wasn\u2019t really about not ever buying things for the kids \u2014 but rather about making the Christmas holiday about the memories that they could share as a family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey get plenty of things throughout the year, so I\u2019m not like some weird, strict, cold mom who\u2019s like, \u2018You don\u2019t get any gifts!&#8217;\u201d she said. \u201cI just\u00a0feel like a better gift would be a life memory. I\u2019d rather invest [in that than in] a doll house or something. It all evens out and it\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/yeah-so-drew-barrymore-says-shell-go-years-without-sex-no-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barrymore<\/a> admitted that she did break down and just buy presents one year \u2014 when pretty much everything was locked down and travel was impossible because of the COVID pandemic \u2014 and she said the results were less than stellar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m fine to skip this. This sucks,\u201d she observed of the gift-centric experience, adding that another perk to giving experiences rather than physical presents was that it eliminated virtually all of the complaining about kids \u201cnot liking what they get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another benefit, the \u201cE.T.\u201d actress said, was having a Christmas experience that brought the family together but still changed a bit every year \u2014 and not feeling as though she had to do the same things every year simply because they were \u201ctradition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[I try] to remember that one holiday won\u2019t be probably the same as one 10 years from now, that your life can dramatically change,\u00a0and new people and new traditions can come into it. I like looking at the holidays through a comedic, realistic lens\u00a0of, we\u2019re gonna have a lot of different holiday stories,\u201d she added. \u201cWhat one do you want to keep going and build as a tradition?
