She has also earned the moniker \u201cTikTok Surgeon\u201d for her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.ie\/irish-news\/health\/irish-gender-affirmation-surgeon-based-in-florida-is-reported-over-false-promotion-in-tiktoks-42051361.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advertising methods<\/a> to her large social media following. Her detractors have primarily been conservatives and liberals critical of gender ideology, but recently, after a former patient went viral with allegations of medical malpractice, the transgender community has responded with outrage toward the doctor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn August of 2022, I flew to Miami, Florida to get top surgery from Dr. Sidhbh Gallagher,\u201d wrote Rylan, a 23-year-old trans-identified female, on the self-publishing platform Medium. \u201c3 weeks later, a local surgeon had to rush me in to remove over half a foot of dead, rotting tissue. Gallagher dismissed every concern, including hollow cavities that formed on my ripped-open incision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rylan came forward on November 22, describing her ordeal in detail with graphic images of severely infected wounds. She also included screenshots of the email correspondence with Dr. Gallagher.<\/p>\n<p>As of December 8, Rylan\u2019s viral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@mrherbcat\/video\/7168938866257186094?is_from_webapp=1&#038;sender_device=pc&#038;web_id=7171125136645424686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a> on TikTok has amassed 4.5 million views, nearly 100,000 likes, and over 14,000 comments, with a vast majority of the messages expressing their sympathy and outrage. As word spread across social media of Rylan\u2019s story, some transgender TikTokers made their own videos warning others of Dr. Gallagher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are part of the trans community, or you\u2019re an ally, I need you to heed this warning and beware of Dr. Gallagher,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@pinkiel7\/video\/7167548815568915755?is_from_webapp=1&#038;sender_device=pc&#038;web_id=7171125136645424686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began<\/a> one TikTok user.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re considering getting top surgery done by Dr. Gallagher, who you might have noticed on TikTok \u2014 DON\u2019T,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@armhole_\/video\/7167796413802319110?is_from_webapp=1&#038;sender_device=pc&#038;web_id=7171125136645424686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> another TikToker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis person is not to be trusted when it comes to your healthcare,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@octaviadylanquinn\/video\/7169038396432665898?is_copy_url=1&#038;is_from_webapp=v1&#038;lang=en&#038;q=gallagher%20top%20surgery&#038;t=1670450518952\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> yet another user on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Rylan, who lives in Ohio, said she sought out the Miami-based doctor because she is willing to operate on overweight patients. \u201cShe\u2019s one of the only gender surgeons with no BMI cap in my country,\u201d said Rylan.<\/p>\n<p>But after just four days, Rylan began to notice complications from the surgery. When she sent a photo of her oozing wound with extensive black-and-purple discoloration on her left side, Gallagher assured her it was just \u201cbruising.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the day of her follow-up appointment, the incision had reopened and was \u201cbleeding significantly.\u201d Rylan described bleeding through her clothes and onto the exam room table as Gallagher \u201cminimized everything.\u201d Rylan alleges that Dr. Gallagher called the wound a \u201cblowhole\u201d and made a crude joke about menstruating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was confused, because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@gendersurgeon?_t=8XZjQFEYaB1&#038;_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">her TikTok page<\/a> has videos where she says she\u2019s never had an incision break,\u201d Rylan said.<\/p>\n<p>Three weeks after surgery and back home in Ohio, Rylan was in excruciating pain when she was rushed to the emergency room after giant coagulated blood clots \u201cthe size of golf balls\u201d began sloughing off of her wounds. Her incisions had begun opening in several locations that would become \u201cgaping abscesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Rylan emailed photos of her deteriorating condition from the hospital, Dr. Gallagher sent a reply the following morning, which Rylan claimed minimized her concerns and instructed her that there was \u201cno need for the ER.\u201d Throughout the ordeal, Rylan had sent Dr. Gallagher photos of her gaping wounds, to which she replied, \u201clooking good \u2013 not infected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Rylan would have over 6 inches of infected, necrotic tissue removed from her torso.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went under anesthesia 3 days later and woke up to a nurse telling me I could\u2019ve gone septic without the surgery,\u201d said Rylan. \u201cOver half a foot of my left side had been killed by a bacteria that has a high mortality rate.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>After the ordeal, Rylan sought the services of a medical malpractice lawyer in Miami, who informed her that Dr. Gallagher had opted out of medical malpractice insurance. Florida is one of 32 U.S. states that do not require <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapmanlawgroup.com\/practice_areas\/florida-physicians-without-medical-provider-liability-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">physicians<\/a> to carry medical liability insurance, which protects physicians from medical malpractice lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe payout would not be enough to cover the cost of the case for a law firm, so lawyers are highly unlikely to help me sue her without that insurance,\u201d said Rylan. \u201cI was told she likely utilizes this loophole on purpose, knowing it leaves her victims powerless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since the video went viral, dozens of users had noticed that their critical comments on Dr. Gallagher\u2019s TikTok videos had been deleted \u2014 some users were even blocked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cannot spam her comments,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@sea_slugs_and_gays\/video\/7169192265494318382?is_from_webapp=1&#038;sender_device=pc&#038;web_id=7171125136645424686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> one TikTok user. \u201cShe deletes all of them. But it just shows how guilty she is.
